This is great! Thanks to AC-SWM I can go around AT&T's block of non-market apps and get these for free!!

How exactly do you download the APK file to side load it?

In the near future we might not need to side load for Amazon any more.

I was able to download the Amazon Appstore APK and side load it, but, I can't download the APKs for the apps. I can only install them thru the phone and I get the 'your stupid ATT phone doesn't allow this' error.

I had the same problem when I tried to update the Swype keyboard. The easiest thing for me to do was to use Super 1-click, from XDA. There is a button to root your phone and one to enable non-market apps. It took about 2 minutes to do this. After doing this, you should have no problems downloading from Amazon.

I have a convoluted way of loading that apps since I don't want to root. I just download them from the amazon app store let it tell me that I can't install. Then I open my phone on my computer and remove the .apk file off the phone and install using Android centrals SWM and everything works well. I have shazam, swift key and angry birds rio on my phone now.

Comeeeonn, Beautiful Widgets tomorrow! (A guy can only hope). But yeah, I wonder if this brings more people to buy stuff from the Amazon App store or just wait for their paid app to be free, hahaha

One thing to remember is that it appears that if you uninstall the amazon appstore on the device, any apps downloaded from amazon will stop working...so there may be some big brother mothership thing going on

Stupid question, but how did you get the .apk file off of the phone? My computer doesn't see the folders from the phone, just the SD cards.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. I'd rather not root so if someone could post how to do it, I'd appreciate it. :)

I use astro file manager on the phone

you can find the apk files this way just to make sure they were downloaded to your phone

open astro-android-data-com.amazon.venezia-cache-these are the apk files (start with vnz followed by numbers)

now plug your phone into your computer as USB storage mode. once your computer recognizes the phone 2 new drives will appear, external sd card (F: ) and then internal (G: ) for me. open internal and follow android-data-com.amazon.venezia-cache-these are the apk files (start with vnz followed by numbers)

then move those to you computer to use SWM
