APK install help

So yesterday I wiped my phone and memory card due to it being unbearable to use. Before the reset I backed up all my non market apps to the computer. (a mac if that makes a difference) Ive used the files on the memory card to install the apps on many android phones before I copied them to the computer, now when I copy them back to the sd card from the computer and try to install them the phone says cant open as apk file??? any ideas???

BTW the culprit seems to be chomp sms which was making everything laggy

Have you tried installing and using an apk manager from the Market?

This isn't going to be of much use to you right now, but if you need to do this again in the future, look into an app called Titanium Backup. It will make backing up and restoring much quicker.

I use Astro to install my apk files.

And no, it doesn't make a difference that you are using a Mac...

Weird I tried installing them with one of the market apk installers and astro...both times nothing. After some quality time with the phone browser I re dl'd all the apps and they install fine. I just don't understand why being copied would render them dead???
