    hi everyone,

I got a Motorola Atrix 2 last week. It's my first smartphone. On my first call that I used the phone for an hour's duration, the phone went from warm to hot ( Batteryleft app showed a temperature of 38 C). Should I be concerned? It is only the second day I have had my phone, so I can return/exchange it as well.

    Thanks!!

I wouldn't start to worrry as yet if I were you. Normally a phone temp will rise if you're using it for a period of time whether on a call or with certain applications. What you can do is.. try to limit long converation while having the phone charging at the same time. However, if the phone gets too hot to touch - then it would be time for you to get a replacement.

I don't know if using a protective case would help or hurt. My Atrix 2 has been in an Otterbox since the day I purchased it and have not noticed a spike in the phone's temperature.

Any smartphone with a screen that big is going to start getting warmer after extended uses where the screen remains on. It's normal. Having a case on the phone will not only protect it but will probably prevent you from ever feeling the spike in temperature.

How true this is. I have an Outterbox Commuter Case on my Atrix 4G and for the most part, When I feel the case getting warm, I check the temp. I think the highest mine has ever got up to was 128F. I was watching some movies, like 3 yrs worth, while it was charging. No damage done since it will shut down after 130F, or something like that. I say get to know your phone and keep in mind what you are doing when the temp goes up. This way you'll know what not to do and how long not to do it.

    Thanks everyone for your inputs!

Over the last week, I got a hang of this phone. It does get too warm if I charge it and use the phone for tasking apps (like navigation etc) at the same time. Getting better at understanding the characteristics of the device! I am impressed at its battery life so far!
