    Hello forum.

So, this thread, as the name indicates is to find the best working custom rom for gt540. What I am looking for, is a clean rom (no crap pre-installed like the factory-installed ones has) with everything the phone has working as intended (althought I don't care much for the gps). It would be optimal if App to SD was supported on it too.

All I've found so far that would work as what I said above is Mike's Froyo (found about it in another forum that's barely active, though) but I have no idea what does not work in it?
So, has anyone tried it? Does anyone have other suggestions?

    Thank you in advance.
    Cheers.

I would suggest Cyanogen Mod 7, its a 2.3 custom rom, with working apps2sd, GPS support, recently BT headset support was added so now as far as I can tell everything is supported, the apps preinstalled are the normal android ones like gapps, calander, camera, calc etc. It also has DPS manager, Radio, Root explorer, Superuser and Terminal emulator.

    Install instructions are here http://androidforums.com/optimus-gt...nogenmod-7-android-2-3-4-avaliable-gt540.html

Hello Delsus and thanks for your reply.

I was just reading up on that and I see this

What does it mean by modems not working? Will wireless and 3G work?

That changelog is based on an old version, modems not working means wireless and USB teathers so you can use your phone as a wireless acces point or a usb modem.

These however were fixed in a recent update and yes 3G and wireless both work. the link to the latest version is here :

SwiftDroid v2.0 RC4 http://link2me.ru/8118/http://depositfiles.com/files/omt7w62lc - recovery http://link2me.ru/8118/http://depositfiles.com/files/zwwhibfnh - fastboot More stable and usable with latest CyanogenMod version

You will need to use the fastboot link and follow the instructions in the post I linked you to in my previous post.

Sorry for double post but I'm a bit lost here.
The whole instalation thing is extremely confusing and as I see it, I'll probably end up bricking my phone. So I'm wondering, can I install fastboot and cyanogen through the Rom Manager (clockwork) app?

I dont believe you can with this version because its a port to the GT540, however as long as you follow the instructions the only chance of bricking your phone is if somthing crashes, installing fastboot is automatic once you have run KDZ, and if you want you can download one of the previous versions of CM7 and use dudeman's .exe installer, which will flash the rom without you having to put the commands in which will lower the chance of a brick again, then you can update to the latest version with the recovery file.

Hello again and sorry for taking so long to reply. I've been quite busy lately.
    Here's what hapened.
Due to a bad connection between the phone and the comp, I bricked my phone while installing fastboot. After a bit of googling, I managed to recover it with the normal rom installed over fastboot. But here's the deal. Installing fastboot removed my root and now when I tried to re-install it, adb wont recognize the phone no matter what (yes, I reinstalled the drivers, set it to debugging etc). Any idea why this is hapening?

If your phone is in android again, does the PC recognise it when the USB is connected in mass storage mode? If you can then I would suggest redownloading the file from the op, if not I would think the brick could have damaged somthing in the phone.

    Hello again.
Mass Storage mode wouldn't work so I guess something bugged when the brick hapened.
But it doesn't matter. After an entire night of search, I stumbled on this.
    [APP] One Click Root App 2.1 - z4root - Updated 1.3.0 - xda-developers
    It worked flawlessly.
Needs QR scanner and Astro Manager (or whatever file manager you like)
Install it and root. Much easier and safer than the ADB way (only other working one I know of so far) imo.

Oh and for the sake of being too lazy to read my previous posts, just in case I didn't thank you already, thanks for all the help n__n

Personnaly I used z4root to initially root mine, but I would think you do have somthing bugged, and it could prevent you from installing fastboot and CM7 now, unless you got fastboot installed, then that may work, I would expect the USB problem is just software based, because a brick shouldnt affect hardware, therefore fastboot should work if its installed on your phone.

    Hello once again.
I finally figured what the problem was.
Okay so, after a while of using the gt540 (wasn't mine to begin with, was my father's but he didn't like it so he let me have it) and failing with the rom flashing and stuff, I decided to buy my own phone. I baught a desire Z and skipping all that c**p I ended up trying the lg with the htc's cord. And THAT was the problem. The cord I was using before was defective and is what was causing all the problems. CM7 runs on the LG like a charm and to anyone thinking about it, just go for it. Far superior to the stock installed rom in terms of speed.
