Buying a used phone?

If I buy a used phone and have a problem with it, can I still get it fixed or replaced from verizon or htc? And would my phone insurance transfer over? Thanks

In the past, i've always been able to insure phones even if I didn't buy them from Verizon. But they make you wait 30 days before making a claim.

Not sure if the rules have changed.
