Help Camera B0rked?

I bought a Desire HD used, pics looked good, blurb looked good, seller had a 100% feedback with 5300 positive ratings.

I did my checking, thought I had been careful.

Phone arrived lunchtime, plugged it in and started charging it... had a play and started setting it up.

Then I decided to test the camera and this is what the screen sees (took these with my old Canon Ixus 500). The pictures are 100% accurate and have not been altered in any way image size was reduced by 50% as some forums are fussy over image sizes)

I've contacted the seller, and sent them the pics too... now waiting to see what the response is... Though that some one here might be able to shed some light on the problem... Is it as bad as I think... the camera is completely b0rked, and the phone needs to be returned for a refund?

It does look borked.

See the little wand thing on the right hand side of the screen, that's the effect button. Have a play about with that and see if he's not made one of the effects default?

When you take a pic with it, how does it come out?

I've reset everything to default... I can't see any effects active.

I've got no micros SD card at the moment. Phone didn't come with one (I knew that) and I was going to buy one once I'd got the phone.

OK, installed camera 360 and it's still the same.

Seller has also responded and said to return the camera for a refund.

Very unhappy, have to start the search all over again... and chances of getting one for the same price are slim...

Do I stick with the same model... or widen my search?

I understand the frustration, but at least you're getting your money back!! :)

I love my DHD (it's awesome) and I'd say stick with it, but you may find something that you decide is better for you... sorry if that doesn't help!

I must admit... it's my first real experience with a decent touchscreen phone. My old SE P990i was good for it's day, and I've tried a few smartphones in the last year... including an iphone 4 a Wildfire and a few others... there was a HTC with windows mobile on it.

But I've had quite a few hrs playing with this one, setting it up adding a few tweaks and I love it.

It's fast, responsive and has plenty of memory... I'd definitely consider another one... just might take a while longer.

Can't start the search until I actually have the money back... well... I can search and drool, but can't buy until then. :)

One thing is for certain... I'm hooked.

Did you try a factory reset. Since your sending it back you will want to do one anyway to get any of your information off the phone.

It's been sent back this morning, seller should have it by lunchtime tomorrow and hopefully I'll have my refund shortly afterwards.

I've been looking... there's a lot of DHD's on ebay and some really nice minters for similar price to what I paid.

Just need to be a little choosy and make sure it's an unlocked and unbranded one.

Doesn't matter if it's not unlocked/unbranded... there is a one click tool that does everything for you (root, simunlock, the lot), so it's really easy to sort yourself!! :)

EDIT - here's a link for the one click root http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/431483-guide-dhd-all-things-root-roundup-sticky.html - was just thinking that, by not restricting yourself to unbranded/unlocked phones, you could save yourself some money!!

Phone was delivered back to the seller and a refund has been issued, he also paid the return postage.

So I give the seller a big thumbs up for helping to resolve it quickly, means I can start the hunt for a new one today... but if only he'd made sure the camera worked before he sold it. He's a seller who refurbishes phones judging from his feedback, and he'd replaced the screen on the one I bought... if only he'd checked it thoroughly afterwards.

Right... off to ebay again. :)

It's nice to hear that there are still some good ebayers out there! I've been pretty lucky myself and not really had any issues (only one, but it was resolved in a similar way to how you are describing)!

Good luck!!

I get the car mounting kit, but no car charger... are the ebay ones good enough or should I look for a genuine one. A friend with a Desire S said that the cheap ebay ones don't charge it enough to use as a satnav... so even though it's charging, the battery still runs down because the uses more juice than the charger is supplying.

You could always go for a cheaper one and then try a more expensive one if it doesn't do enough for you - not got any experience really, as I don't have a car!

The Cable's a bit short, but I picked this one up on Amazon just after I got the handset: FoneM8 - Car Charger For Desire, Desire HD, Desire S: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

I presume it will charge and allow you to use as a sat-nav at the same time as when it's plugged in it shows as AC Charging.

Gotta love it when the postage costs 8 times more than the item. :)

The issue that was highlighted to me by a HTC Desire S owner, is that the cheap car chargers don't charge at the same rate as the genuine ones. So even though you are charging the phone, the satnav is using more power than it's receiving from the charger and thus continues to use battery power.

FFS... I have a seller who doesn't reply, and I have no idea if it's been sent. I paid for special delivery with tracking and insurance and they should have sent it Sat morning... claimed next day delivery but I accept they might not be able to post it until the day after the auction ends.

I may be just overly cautious... but I know ebay is full of scammers and liars... I try to do my research and check all through a sellers ratings... this one has sold quite a few phones this year along with other electronic goods and has a 100% rating.

But it only takes a few seconds to acknowledge the buyer and give them an idea when it will be sent... and that doesn't leave me wondering if I've been scammed for the last 3 days.

I paid for next day delivery... they've already failed on that.

Yeah, I can't believe it was that cheap :)

If the charger does that, stop using it, that's very bad for the battery.

Might not be the seller at fault though. I've just had the month's "free trial" of Amazon Prime (free next day delivery but you pay an annual fee for it) and had something last week that didn't turn up. Tracked it and it had been 'returned to depot'. Rang the depot and actually went to get it but all the guy could tell me was that the delivery driver 'hadn't attempted' delivery! No fault of Amazons though.

If it's not the sellers fault... why the silence? Surely they'd be keen to prove they'd kept up their end of the contract? A total lack of communication is a big concern for me.
