Check out the Handcent SMS app it does that, along with letting you quickreply right from the lockscreen, or whatever screen you are on..

You can also try noled. I used it on my captivate and without thinking put it on my inspire even though the inspire has an led. so when you get a text, email or missed call you will see the icon bouncing around the screen. not sure what effect it has on the battery cause I never pay that much attention to my battery.

If you're a user of Tasker. It has the ability to have this function with the stock messaging app.

I tried Handcent, chomp and GoSMS. I rather GoSMS, all three will give you what you want.

Hi! I am a former iPhone user and just took the plunge to an Inspire this past Sunday. So far I am very pleased however I am concerned at the warnings I received when I went to install Handcent and GoSMS- they kinda freaked me out. I miss having my phone light up when a new text came in when it was on silent however I'm not so sure about all of these "Malicious" warnings that have come up during the install.

Will you please help mw to understand what this is and if its something I need to concern myself with.

    Thanks so much!

I never got a warning installing any of those apps. What exactly does it say?
