cant hide folder on home screen - because tablet isnt rooted?

Why cant I hide a folder on my home screen?

I created a new folder on my samsung tablets home screen and put some stuff in it.

Now I want to hide that folder, but every file/folder hide app I've tried, the name of this folder doesnt show up, anywhere, so I can select it to hide it.

Is this because the tablet is not rooted and the folder is being protected by the system... or something else?

But I'm curious as to what kind of folder you're trying to hide.
