Help Can't plug my phone into USB storage mode on my computer anymore

I need to transfer my files from my phone to my computer since I am switching carriers but my phone has not been (for a very long while for almost a year now) not allowing me enter usb storage mode. usually it would have a message notification telling me it's input as media storage or whatever or I can choose what it wants to plug in as and whatnot. but it doesn't anymore. It only charges now, I've searched my entire phone there's no buton to activate the usb storage mode at all. I don't want to lose my photos and files and music on my phone! Also, my phone is Alcatel OneTouch with Virgin Mobile

Have you tried another USB cord? That's often the first suspect thing when a device charges but does nothing else, like data transfer mode.

Does you computer recognize your phone at the other end? Windows?
