Change to "Google Play Edition" after purchase?

I'm not even sure if this question makes sense, but I just upgraded from the Galaxy Nexus to the M8 and although I can probably tolerate Sense (after putting on a custom launcher and keyboard), I still really think I'd prefer the stock Google OS.

I'm sure this would require getting root, but I didn't know if the images were made available by HTC/Google or if you had to "find it" using other means.

Also, I assume this means losing the features that I do like about the phone, such as the camera and gallery?

Mind you, I'm not looking for a "how-to"; I just want to know if this is possible and how easy/difficult it is (I am used to rooting, unlocking, flashing).

I appreciate your help!
