Help Change you change the message 'received' setting

I am having a rather frustrating problem with the htc magic. Where i work and live the reception is sporadic thus there can be sometime between when a person sends a message to me and when i receive it. Whats frustrating about the HTC Magic is when a message comes in rather then (like ever other phone i have ever had) showing the time the message was sent to me, it shows the time i received it. Is there anyway to change this setting?
