I love metro, I have no hidden charges, their coverage area has grown a lot. Yeah I don't have 3G, but on my optimus the little 1x is pretty darn fast.
We do get double texts and texts that come an hour later at times but I can deal with that.
I can't say metro IS better, because I don't know much about Cricket. Shoot I've never heard of them until this forum.
This forum happens to be an entertaining and informative one. I always enjoy reading the posts here.
That's because we're all high on huawei!!!
hahaha

Holy smokes! I didn't know that. And I'm planning an out of state tripDear Cricket,
1. I think that Cricket's 'Nationwide Calling Plan' is highly deceptive. It makes one think that they can call anywhere from anywhere and this is just not the case. One can only call from their home area or else you are in 'roaming' territory and it gets very very expensive. I think this should be explained better on the mycricket.com website as well as in all Cricket stores.
Sincerely!!!
Well this forum helped my wife decide to go with her ascend.

Holy bat-roaming bat- man,the 'roaming cricket' is about to suck our wallets dry! Better use the bat-phone!
You know I like Cricket cause of course the no contract thing, so called "unlimited" plan, cheap monthly service and finally carrying smart phones.....but they sure do punish you once you leave your house though...
Just a thought here but...
Just a thought here but in order to get around the roaming cost you can use Skype ... but you have to find a free Wi-Fi Zone. Can't use Skype any other way (i.e., via 3G).
I've had some rough financial times recently (before I got my Ascend) and my only "phone" was Skype (via my home computer and a cheap $40 cam which I only used mostly as a mic) and so I know from experience that you can pay Skype $2.99 a month (charged monthly to a credit card) and this allows you to make unlimited calls to any phone number (land line or cell phone etc.) using Skype. Of course I was using my home computer at the time. The only problem with using Skype over our Ascend is that it is limited to Wi-Fi.
But think about it ... you pay Skype only $2.99 a month and can make unlimited calls from it to ANY phone number. And it's totally unlimited nationwide (USA)
But again you have to be on Wi-Fi and if you are "roaming" chances are you are in an area you don't know which means finding free Wi-Fi might be a trick.
Just a thought ...
Still, even considering the circumstances, that right there is good information to know. You never know when one may end up in a similar situation and need a temporary workaround. Thanks for that.
Dear Cricket,

Hi whats the name of the app that can track a stolen phone.
I never hardly ever use my landline any more.
Wow. People still actually have those in their homes? I thought those went the way of cassette tapes and laser discs..![]()
Plus with Metro, It's got an amazingly large "Extended home" area (My boyfriend went all the way to Ohio from Florida, No roaming). Where you do not have to pay any extra for roaming. I also like it that if you've got more than one line on your plan, You get 10 dollars off. Like me and my Boyfriend we've both got Metro, We pay 90 dollars exactly. We've both got the 50 dollar plan. I like that Metro cannot just "Add" anything to your bill.Metro 1x isn't the best, I will agree. I've had dial-up speeds at times. Metro does have one advantage over Cricket, and it is this: Whatever the monthly fee for your plan, you don't pay a dime over it. Taxes and fees are all included, so for the $50 plan (the Ascend has to have this plan, equivalent to Cricket's Android Plan) all I pay is $50, straight up. Not $50 plus taxes and fees.
Jazziette, you keep your land line for the same reason I keep my Vonage line: So you don't get bill collectors and spam calls on your cell phone, because someone would have to DIE if they were harassing me on my cell!
I haven't had any trouble with the multi-texts on Metro, but my wife does now and then, usually gets duplicate texts an hour or 2 after the originals.
thanks. I was reading crickets web site last night, and based on what it says, Jazziette definately has been overcharged, and should be able to get her money refunded. If cricket refuses to give her credit, she should have her credit card company dispute the bill.Just an update on the roaming thing:
If you go to Cricket's coverage map, to the bottom left you will see frequently asked questions.
------------------------
Am I covered when I travel? Cricket has you covered when you travel. Receive unlimited talk and text coverage nationwide. Check the map to see what the coverage is like where you are traveling.
Can I call anyone in the US? If your plan includes US long distance, you can call anyone, on any network (cell phone or landline), anywhere in the United States, unlimited. Roaming charges may apply.
Where can I use all of my rate plan features?
All voice features and text messaging features are available in the nationwide talk and text coverage areas. All data features (i.e. mobile web, mobile email, picture messaging, etc) are available in the data coverage areas represented on the data coverage maps.
How do I know if I am roaming?
When you are outside of areas included in your plan, you will see a roaming indicator on your phone. This looks different on different phones. Some use the letter "R", some say "Roaming", some display an icon. Your phone user manual will tell you exactly how your phone shows that you are roaming.
When you see the roaming indicator, any calls you make or receive will be charged at the roaming rate. If your plan does not have any roaming minutes you will simply not be able to make or receive the call - no surprises on your bill!
----------------------------------
Based on the first answer, I would assume if you travel somewhere in the coverage area, you should have normal service with no roaming.
Based on the last answer, I am under the impression that roaming fees shouldn't come as a surprise. Meaning, you would hopefully know if you are roaming.
Has anyone been surprised by roaming charges or had issues in normal coverage areas away from your home area?
Has anyone been surprised by roaming charges or had issues in normal coverage areas away from your home area?
I live in Houston and took my 2 week old Ascend to VT and didn't get charged a penny extra and boy I was shocked. The only time I couldn't get service is when I visited my mom, who lives next to a mountain....lol, go figure
