Help desire wifi hotspot problem.

I'm in Australia and have a HTC Desire, we just got Froyo and I've been trying to use the WiFi hotspot, now when it does work I've been getting great results, 650 kb a second while using vuze on my laptop. My problem is though, the hotspot from my desire keeps turning on and off every 5 seconds most of the time. The internet I use from my carrier when I'm just using the internet on my phone never drops out and its starting to wear thin. Can someone please help me.
