Yes you can use the pattern lock, I don't personally because I don't want to accidentally make an emergency call.

...no you cannot revert to the 2.0 wheel unlock, which saddens me, even thought the new slider works better, I sometimes wish to use the wheel...it was nifty.

That emergency call button doesn't automatically make an emergency call. It brings up the dial pad so you can make an emergency call. Actually you could use it to call anyone even if it wasn't an emergency. But there is no way to accidentally call 911.
