Help Droid Bottom Four Buttons

In 2.2, are they supposed to light up?

I got a replacement Droid, and everything was fine till I went outside during the night. I noticed that these keys weren't lighting up; however, I remember distinctly that my old Droid's bottom four lit up. My Droid is currently unrooted on stock.

*Note : I have the Droid in Auto-Brightness. I also tried going into a completely dark room and turning on my Droid, only to see that it didn't light up again.

they should light up in low light situations with auto-brightness set to on. my 2.2 droid does.

Auto brightness setting doesn't matter. They should light up in low light situations with it off as well.
