Andy Rubin said it would be fine with both tablets and smartphones. Despite that, everyone is insisting that Honeycomb is tablet only, processor-intensive and Android will branch.

Android Central had a slow news day and churned up some old rumors.

There's been a little back and forth about this, but make no mistake -- Honeycomb is intended for Android tablets.
Make no mistake, Android Central - Andy Rubin, the guy in charge of Android, knows more about what Honeycomb is intended for than you do.

Here's what happens on a smaller screen - Android 3.0 Honeycomb Emulator Tweak Shows Smartphone View

Honeycomb on a smartphone.

If the last year has taught us anything it's that the Android team at Google aren't dummies and that the rumor mill tends to be wrong about every new release and what it will and won't do.

The rumor mill said Gingerbread was strictly to be a GUI update. Incorrect - it's a significant performance update. Now the rumor mill is saying that Honeycomb is a GUI update. I therefore predict that after we all install Gingerbread and we're waiting on the Honeycomb performance updates, the rumor mill will be telling us that Ice Cream Sandwich will be a GUI update only.

Yeah I see us getting Gingerbread but I doubt they'll put Honeycomb on the Evo 1. It'd be nice to have Evo 2 launch with Honeycomb and the new Sense though :)

1 week before it is released? or announced???

I dont think it will release next week! maybe announced.

Less than a week to go before my prediction date proves false - or true...

Here's to hoping your prediction is true! :D Although, I definitely won't be disappointed if it's not true, especially considering the issues Samsung is having with the Galaxy S upgrades to Froyo.

I have a feeling that conversation would be like this:

HTC: We have a major release ready to upgrade the Evo and Evo Shift.

Sprint: Well, we'll have to hold off on that because we're busy with Samsung.

HTC: And in the face of demand from Verizon and T-Mobile for our handsets, you're asking us to wait on your chicken dance with Samsung? Awfully nice supply chain we have for you, sure hope it doesn't have a little accident.

Sprint: Ummmm... I misspoke. When would you be wanting that update pushed out?

HTC: Just in time to make EarlyMon LHA0 oughta do just fine.

Hahahaha...I think you have to archive that conversation post, EarlyMon! Hilarious.

^Close enough - 6th is Sunday, I don't think they'd push anything on a weekend where they couldn't hit mainstream press. My guess was the 8th, but they can't upstage the big magic Sprint announcement on the 7th...

I agree it would make more sense to get the new Sense - but if they had to stage the releases, I'd be ok with it. I do want to try the new Sense.

My prediction was for both to come at the same time because that makes more sense in terms of not managing too many branches of what they're putting out there.

This is what HTC sent me via e-mail regarding my question about whether or not the HTC Evo will recieve android 2.3 update.

Dear Cory Stapleton, We understand that it is important you receive all the information to best utilize your device. Currently, our developers have to work with Sprint to determine when and if a ROM upgrade will be available. Unfortunately, we do not have any information about an update for your device. We are provided the new ROM versions by Google but have to engineer every update specific for our hardware and the carriers network. Updates are developed specifically for a device. We do not have a time table for when the 2.3 update will be developed for the Evo 4.

well that's not a great sign... but if they're keeping it a secret, that's probably what they'd say

First of all thank you Earlymon and Coldfuzion for replying. Secondly, I just bought my Evo so Im not quite on par with the other patiently awaiting Evo owners, but this update is very important to me. Mostly cause nobody likes to buy a new phone and feel left behind, so on that note I will definitely dig deep for more information regarding to this post. Thank ya'll again for your comments.
