who cares about gingerbread that's sooo old. bring on honeycomb....
aw what the hell lets just go stright to desert.:)

I'll be willing to bet my last beer, that Sprint's upcoming annoucement is going to be the first CDMA phone that allows voice and data at the same time. ;)

has beer?

So - either by accident or design, Google's not driving makers to update.

In your defense I've read multiple times when you have made it clear why you based your date when you did. I fully wished your were right, but at the same time I knew it was a pipe dream. Espescially considering new Sense will probably be released in conjunction with Gingerbread. I'll stick with my still wishful thinking date of release:

Weeks & months aren't really long in this type of industry. 2.3 has only been out for shortly over a month at this time. Based on previous HTC history getting 2.2 to the EVO I fully expect Gingerbread by the beginning of March (considering delays for Sense 2.0 and the Holidays in Dec.) This should give us an OS upperhand over the Thunderbolt for a short time.

New Sense is already out on the Desire HD and Z - so... putting them together makes sense.

I think your prediction of beginning of March to account for holidays and other releases is pretty sensible.

I'm personally dying to get it. I was hoping when I got my replacement EVO(Bad battery life+getting out of the car with the car charger still attached=Pavement meeting. Pavement meeting+EVO=Shattered screen) a week ago I could update soon. I'll instead relish the fact my new EVO isn't such a battery hog, plus I got the keep the other charger and battery. And keep checking back when I should be studying for those oh-so-important tests in my major-centric classes...

I also think that sooner or later the hardware is going to limit updating but there's no way to know when that will happen. I also think it's in Googles best interest to keep the handsets out in the field as updated as possible. We wouldn't want potential customers seeing android on samsung moments now would we?

I still think we'll get at least one more update on the evo. Then it will be anyone's guess.

Until the hardware makes the next big leap forward the Evo doesn't have much to worry about. The multi-core mobile processors are here now so I expect a multi-core super phone before too long.

Even if Evo loses it's flagship phone status and Sprint / HTC stops updating it the XDA community will take care of it. Look at the Hero etc.

The Atrix, IMO, puts our phone to shame at this point, but it did take almost a year (depending on release dates).

^^^ yes, it is a beast.. but again.. not released.. till it does.. it does not have ranking yet. If you can not get it in your hands.. then it can not be evaluated for title of king.

to be honest.. EPIC has the EVO beat.. in most specs.
but EVO (imo) is still king of the hill (as of now).

If you play with the epic and the evo at the same time you realize the specs don't really buy lunch in the end. The evo feels better in your hand and everything works on it. Even the happiest epic owner can't say everything works on one. I took a chance when I got the evo but man I'm glad I did.

I think it's all just personal preference. If you want the features the Epic has, the Evo is not for you, and vice versa.

That said - I'm still on Team Evo! :D

But honestly, I don't think the Epic is bad at all, really. (GPS, but some people don't care - TouchWiz, but some people like it, especially the notification bar features.)

I feel for those guys not getting Froyo - unless rooted. That's just not fair.

Off-topic? No - I'm going somewhere with this.

The Epic gang are in the same boat as us - wanting continued relevancy from last year's model, courtesy of an update.

Makes me wonder about that chicken-dance hypothetical conversation I posted:

We _know_ the little inexpensive Optimus S is getting 2.3 - I'm wondering if Sprint isn't now pressuring or otherwise planning to have all three of their 4G phones update to Gingerbread at about the same time, coordinating somehow with Samsung _and_ HTC? (Plus or minus time to level server load.)

With talk of defects in 2.3, and the somehow late 2.3 update for the Nexus One by Google, I'm _really_ wondering if that 2.4=Gingerbread thing might be the real update target now, after all.

Remember both 2.0 _and_ 2.1 were Eclair, so there is precedent for this.

I feel like I'm at the racetrack: C'mon, Barcelona!

And I way hope we don't have to wonder until CTIA!

^^^ there has been talk about skipping to 2.4
but nothing that holds water.

btw.. my evo has the notification bar .. buttons... :D
and has sense.. which I love.

My evo has the notification bar buttons too. :)

I started running Launcherpro a long time ago though and kept it for the evo so no sense for me. This are all parts of what make android great!

Btw I still think hardware issues are the reason some of the newer, cheaper phones are getting 2.3 and above. When you know the specs of the update when you're building the phone it's easy to make it comply with them. When they designed the evo they had no idea what would be in 2.3+. There's no guarantee they'll ever get it running...

If the iPhone is any parallel, we have nothing to worry about with that phone on AT&T.

Kinda of like owning a crotch rocket on a small Hawaiian island.

There is an article on Engaget today saying that adobe is saying full flash 10.2 will be available for for Honeycomb in a few weeks. They are also saying that said Honeycomb should in turn also be available for smartphones around the same time?? There is only 1 phone right now on Honeycomb right? so does this mean a push to the EVO is in the works???

There's a phone running Honeycomb already? What phone?

As far as I knew, there was only one (1) phone running Gingerbread and Honeycomb was being talked about as a tablet only version.

Regarding the Kyocera discussion a few posts above (the new dual-touchscreen phone yet to be released)

Yea..... not a 4G phone.

Well, the time for 4G dual screen phones with stellar hardware will come. This is a trial phone to test the waters. If it suceeds expect to see more people work on this type of platform and thus comes the latest and greatest. This phone will stir developer interest. Then the hardware will come. You have to understand this phone is soo small for having two screens. The engineers probably had a hard enough time putting this one together.

Also, just to note, my co-worker bought an Inspire today.... Sense 2.0 is sweet and the Inspire is amazing. For all you ATT guys that is a great phone if your not iOS or Atrix selecting.

According to MWC reports, HTC demo'd a few new phones running 2.3.3 but claimed they'd be shipping with 2.4 Gingerbread in Q2.

Pretty big change to the notification bar on Sense 2.1 - HTC Sense 2.1 (Gingerbread) Overview [VIDEO] | Android Phone Fans

Damn, I'd like to see more of the skins. Hopefully they made a transparent skin because I don't like anything obstructing the wallpaper. I also hope they enabled the notification bar to be hidden.

Otherwise, I'll be sticking with LPP (or the new version, when it's launched) or GoLauncher.
