This has been an issue since it was first released. All over this thread. Wireless "N" will not work with this release. It's not even a setting in the menu anymore. You'll have to go back and use "G" until a fix is released.

Will do it, thanks for the suggestions. Testing in places I've used it prior to GB, and in at least five different locations, the compass does not move at all actually.

Edit: done the batter and uninstall/re-install compass, same thing, in fact it point to the exact same spot it pointed before uninstall/re-install.
 
Thanks to everybody for all the great info in this thread.
I'm hoping someone who has updated can tell me whether the system log still shows the Wimax DC Connect error occurring every two seconds after turning off 4g? This seems to have a significant impact on battery life. The only way I know to truly stop 4g is using menu>settings>application>Wireless&Networks>4G turn on, turn off and reboot.
Is that still required with Gingerbread?

I saw the gingerbread update for the Shift on Youtube and was almost mad. The Shift got a real update with Sense 2.1. The Shift got better gingerbread features. The original Evo truly got a watered down version of gingerbread. Maybe they will give the original EVO a little more later.
 
Guys, I have yet to update because of a few issues that would actually impact me personally. Obviously, every user is different, so my reasons will differ from yours. Specifically, Netflix, the Voice Search and the Compass issues scare me.

From what we've heard, Netflix should be fixed with a supposed OTA coming tomorrow, so that would take care of that.

The Voice Search I am hearing different things from different users. For me, personally, I don't know how much it would effect me, as I don't use Voice Search TOO much.

The biggest issue/question I have is with the compass. All I've really seen, is people mentioning Google Sky or a particular Compass app from the Market. Does the compass have any effect on Google Maps or Navigation? This would be my only deterrent.

I guess I'm just confused as to what is causing the issue with the compass. Any info is greatly appreciated.
 
UPDATE:
I was one of the people complaining about constant voice mail notifications. I originally did a factory rest and used my backup pro top basically reinstall everything.
My phone kept giving me low memory warnings so i went in and did a factroy rest again because my contacts data usage WAS ENORMOUS.
I did not use mybackup pro to reinstall anything other than MOBO music, because it's no longer available on the market...so far NO VOICEMAIL notifications and my battery is significantly better!!!!!
Also instead of launcher pro i tried out Go Launcher which I am loving!
 
I have tried a few searches and could not find anything... When I make phone calls to 800 numbers or receive calls and you have to press a # for a choice it doesn't work. I have tried changing to short/long touch tones and nothing. This worked before the update. Any ideas how I can fix this? or were to find the answer? Non rooted phone.

I can't comment with any authority on what is causing the issue, (I have read that it's a software bug whereby a single bit is not being read from the sensor's output register) but I can confirm that it affects all compass apps (they all use the same sensor and if it's being read incorrectly by the OS then all apps will be bad) and Google Sky. This is the main bugbear for me, I used Sky a lot and can't now. If I point my phone to where it thinks the moon is, I am 10s of degrees off.

I don't know about navigation, but I would think for driving it's not an issue, since that will most likely use a change of position type calculation to determine heading rather than the compass. For walking type apps like Gaia GPS or Google Tracks it does affect the instantaneous display of your heading if you aren't moving (I can confirm this on my phone).

Hope this helps a bit, it's a damn shame, since every other aspect of my phone (Netflix aside) is much improved after updating! :cool:

Your hearing different things from different users because some don't understand the problem. It works fine if there isn't much background noise so when people hear about the problem, and then go to check it in their house for example, it works fine and they assume they don't have an issue.

It does not work when there is background noise, such as driving in a car, ie try and speak an address into your GPS while driving and you get nothing.

It worked before the update, it doesn't work after.

I went into the manage apps "running" page and all those annoying automatically-started-up apps that used to be there, are gone!

yea! this should mean improved battery life.

i GET PROBLEMS IN A CAR WHILE AT THE STOP LIGHT. that will tell u how bad it is now.
 
Mine seems to be getting worse and worse. The white HTC loading screen is getting incredibly frequent and extremely frustrating. The speech to text problem is particularly annoying, since that was the big reason I was sold on the EVO in the first place. I drive for 12 hours a day, and it's very dangerous, difficult and illegal to type. I'm going to wait for the update this week. If that doesn't fix it, I will be calling Sprint.
 
Bluetooth wont stay connected to the car. Connects & disconnects randomly. Even while on a call. Phone answers in speaker mode every once and a while. Hmmm....everything worked fine before this crappy update. If you can even call it that.

But after doing a factory reset of everything (I used my backup pro to just install one app that is no longer available in the market, MoBo Music) and made sure to sync my contacts...after the reset I have noticed a huge improvement in battery life, as some have mentioned and my voicemail notification went away as well...I highly recommend a factory reset to anyone having issues.

I actually had a lot of fun redoing my phone, I switched to Launcher Pro to Go and Handcent have been playing with all the customizing options.
