Gingerbread impressions/tips/problems NON ROOTED STOCK ONLY

Wish I'd never updated. My camera and voice to text are both broken.

Camera opens to a black screen, nothing loads. I tried the video cam and the Vignette app I have, none of them open past a black screen.

Also voice to test sometimes doesn't register the end of my speaking. It just staying listening for ever.

Looks like we will be some rooting fools as soon as there is a bootloader unlock for EVO 4g new ginger update. I wish full hdmi EVO is still on the android market.

I unrooted and upgraded to Gingerbread last weekend and haven't had a single problem. I was running Warm2.2 since late February but was having way too many connectivity hang-ups with my Exchange account for work and had to reboot 4-5 times a day to reestablish (figure it was some antenna issue). So I figured with 2.3 now available it was a good time to unroot and head back to the "normal" Droid world.

Granted my memory of stock 2.2 is a little foggy, I immediately noticed an improvement with GB over Warm2.2. One of the biggest improvements for me is Swype. Huge, huge upgrade over the 2.2 Swype. Overall the UI is fast and stable and most importantly I no longer have issues with Exchange losing connectivity. Definitely glad I made the jump.

I have so many problems with my phone after the update. But one of the most annoying has to be... Very frequently I get a notification that me internal storage space is low. And I move apps over to my sd card . Then if I update any apps the notification will pop up again. I don't have. alot of apps so . I'm very confused to why this is happening. Anyone have any idea??????

You might try going through your apps (Menu->Settings->Applications->Manage Applications) to make sure that there isn't an app that is using a huge amount of RAM. When I updated to GB, I got the internal storage space is low warnings. I found that Dolphin was using over 250MB of memory. I cleared that out and haven't had a problem since.

I pretty much gave up. Voice to Txt is useless and I can only take one or two pics with the cam at a time or it locks the phone up. I'll buy another one eventually. Other than that it pretty much works. The camera thing is a bummer, I should have been happy nothing but the voice to txt was broke before the 2nd update.

Has anybody else noticed that sense will not run while the HTC flip coin widget is running. Now even HTC is crashing HTC software... ;-(

I sure am glad I read through this thread. I have been drooling over the prospect of getting GB on my HTC Inspire and am constantly checking for OTA updates (nothing yet). However, after spending the last hour reading about all these issues, I think I'll take a pass on GB - Looks like it's full of bugs and several features have been stripped out. At some point however, I'm sure we will be forced to update due to compatibility issues with apps and various features.

Bummer...

Woops...didn't realize this thread hadn't received any replies in 2 days. Did all of these issues finally get sorted out?.

I don't believe any of these issues have been sorted out.
More likely: we all gave up on expecting a fix in the near future.
:-(

I've had my EVO since launch day and have had very few problems with it. I liked Froyo a lot but upgraded to Gingerbread. Had a few problems, did a reset and everything seemed fine. Recently though I've had a reoccurring issue. Sometimes when using Widgetlocker / Launcher Pro, I can't unlock the screen. Something is preventing the swipe bar from travelling all the way across the screen to unlock it. Sometimes it's completely frozen. If using Sense, sometimes the screen lock has issues also. Once I get past the lock screen, my phone alternates between being completely frozen or just kind of working but seriously lagging. Then, for no reason I can figure out, it goes back to being as smooth as it used to be. Also, when it's acting up, I can touch the screen to perform an action but the notification bar will drop down. Weird stuff.

Good call. Trust me - it sucks. GB is terrible. Froyo was so much better. The way the memory allocations are written are inefficient and unstable.

My Contacts Manager (or Contacts Storage?!? - can't remember) constantly eats up all my internal memory so maybe once or twice every 24 hours I have to clear the cache because I end up with less than 44MBs of memory left. Once I clear, it I might get to 110-115MBs and then it starts all over again. I can't figure out what to do. Can any of my fellow wonks help me out?

HDMI still not working properly after 3rd EVO. Since I have Sprint insurance. I decided to just my first EVO back they swapped it no charge. Before accepting the second EVO, I had the technician plug the second EVO into an hdmi tv and to everyone surprised it did not work. the technician check to see if there was a trouble call out on sprint's website and the technician did not see one. The technician then grab the floor model evo 4g running gingerbread and hdmi work great. I got my third evo 4g and we plug it in at the sprint store the slideshow works fine I just forgot to check the video. the videos not working . so looks like I'll be going in for my forth evo 4g.

Wow the same just happened to me today with the cam had phone since June this year. Should I roll back to 2.2?

Update: LOL, I guess forth time is a charm. The forth EVO Sprint gave me is a little worse for ware (refurbished) everything is working accept speech to text. Though, this current refurb, has light leakage around the edge of the screen and the glass is lifting off the display by the touch keys. The vibration feedback when typing is really weak (almost non existing) I think instead of trying to keep playing swap out with Sprint until they give me a proper full functioning EVO. I think it's time to call it good and get a EVO 3D. The speech to text not working is deal breaker for me.

So I decided to live dangerously and I did the update to GB. Download and install went off without a hitch and from first glance, my phone appears to be running much better...faster, smoother..etc. One thing I did notice though is that when I looked at the battery in settings, my display is now using 74% of the battery. My display was always around 4-6% on Froyo. I checked the brightness level and it's where I've always had it, around 25% or so. Anybody have any ideas about this or solutions?

Tim

I was running CM7 on my Evo for like the past six months. I didn't even see this thread until now... I unrooted and flashed the latest GB software from Sprint last week. I love it.

I'm once again very happy with my Evo. CM7 was constantly freezing, not unlocking, running slowly, and having crap battery. With this stock 2.3.3 software it is fast, stable, never laggy, and doesn't crash or freeze. Google talk is blazing fast now - no delay between typing and sending, unlike the Photon I just returned (why the hell does a dual core phone have a couple seconds lag in Google Talk??)

Anyway, I am happy with it. I have a launch day evo, never had a problem, and once again I love it after getting frustrated with it under CM7. Sense works perfect and everything is smooth.

Anyone else having issues with the HTC gps widget? When i try to turn it on, the first click won't enable the gps. I have to turn the widget off and back on for it to register. I have removed the widget and put it ack. Also rebooted and hard reset. No luck, any suggestions?

This happens since the 2.3 update. Actually the GPS is enabled its just that the icon in the top bar shows its off.
