GPS not picking up signal?

Hi guys,

I'm using an HTC desire and while driving, I was trying to use Maps with GPS signal and it seems that GPS is not picking up a signal, Maps could not pinpoint my location... I have repeated this a few times and for long periods but still no signal.

Is the GPS chip in the HTC weak that it can't pick up signal? or should I do something first before I can use the GPS? or it simply doesn't work?
