Samsung Galaxy Note II Tear Down Repair Guide:

  • In order to start with the repair you will need to be absolutely sure your device is fully powered off.
  • After your device is powered off begin by removing the stylus pen and taking off the battery cover on back. Once the battery cover is off, simply take out the battery, sim card, and memory card.
  • Then using a Small Phillips screwdriver unscrew the eleven (11) Small Phillips screws from the unit's back housing. The screws are highlighted in red in the diagram below.
  • Following the removal of the screws, use your safe open pry tool to remove the back housing. Again using the pry tool wedge into the seam between the housing and chrome bezel and run the pry tool along the corners and sides of the device. Doing so will release the clips so that you can remove the housing, and be aware that one clip is located above the battery tray.

  • After the removal of the back housing the motherboard should be exposed now.
  • Next you will remove four (4) more Small Phillips screws, highlighted in red and depicted in the figure below.
  • Once the screws are removed you can take out the loud speaker assembly located near the bottom of the device.
  • You can now release the pop connectors and antenna using the pry tool. The connectors hold the motherboard in place and are highlighted in green in the diagram below.
  • During the release of the connections you will take off the button flex cable, which is held to the housing with a small amount of adhesive.
  • Located on the left side of the device, the cable is highlighted in orange in the image below. After removal it should be put to the side.
  • Following the release of the connections, you can fully take out the motherboard. Carefully remove the motherboard and avoid ripping or tearing the connections that have been released.
  • Located on the motherboard is the main camera. With the pry tool release the pop connector that holds the main camera to the motherboard. Then place the motherboard to the side.

  • Once the motherboard is removed, extra components need to be removed using your pry tool and a Small Flathead screwdriver.
  • Remove the headphone jack which is also attached to the ear speaker. (Figure 3.1)
  • Take out the front camera and sensors. (Figure 3.2)
  • With a Small Flathead screwdriver wedge underneath the vibrate motor to remove it. The motor is held to the unit with somewhat strong adhesive and is most effectively removed with the Small Flathead screwdriver. (Figure 3.3)
  • Use your pry tool and extract the antenna cable up and lift it away from it's slot and release the flex cable. (Figure 3.4)

  • With a heat gun (on low) or a hair dryer (on medium), heat up the edges and side of the touch screen for 30 - 55 seconds about an inch from the screen in order to loosen the adhesive that holds the screen assembly to the front housing. Be careful not to overheat the screen which could potentially permanently damage the device. During the heating of the device additional re-heating may be needed for some of the stubborn areas to ensure all of the adhesive is loosened. (Figure 4.1)
  • Next, using your pry tool, shim between the seam along the front housing and the touch screen. It is easiest to start with the seam on the side of the device, and then work your way toward the base of the device, and be sure to avoid creating any damage to the lower flex cable. (Figure 4.2)
  • Go on prying the seams of the touch screen to loosen the adhesive and release it from the housing. Using a spudger tool, loosen the screen from the top of the device, this will help to ensure the flex cables do not incur any damage. Also using your spudger tool, pry above the LCD screen so that you can properly feed the cable through the slot in the housing. (Figure 4.3)
  • Release the adhesive that is covering the flex cable. (Figure 4.4)
  • Using the spudger tool, remove the home button flex cable located at the bottom of the device. (Figure 4.5)
  • Finally, remove the home button by pushing it out of the spot it's housed in. (Figure 4.6)
