Root How To Root + Install Custom ROM + Backup + More

When you installed the app with Astro did it say that you had gained root access? or that it installed without any issues?

no nothing it just said installed.

ive installed titanium backup but when it opens it says

sorry i could not acquire root priviledges. This application will *not* work ! please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes busybox and try agian

also im getting a notification from the instant root app
Instant Root not required
Root access is already available

In Titanium, there should be an icon @ the bottom that says Problems? click on that & that will download Busybox which might help.

I'm in the same boat as you Mez, i think i may be slightly further ahead then you though as i can use Nandroid to backup everything, but i can't get the roms to work. So i'm guessing i'm missing something.

Right, Modaco 3.2 is up & running.... But the other roms don't seem to agree with my phone. Now only thing different i've done this time, is wipe every thing except the sd card.

Right. Managed to get the Vanilla rom to work BUT, it was unuseable as i had force closes on everything. Trying the Villain 5.22 rom again. to see if i get a better reaction this time. Only difference from the first time is that i wiped everything except the SD card.

so far Villain 5.22 seems to be working, but my only issue is it seems a bit slow on the setup... possibly different once i get into it.

Thanks guys for your help & bearing with me :)

Hey glad to see your up and running. Got there in the end lol..

After afew rebbots it will be nice and fast

I've got exactly the same problem. I've used Instant Root but Titanium Backup claims that the phone isn't rooted. I'm now downloading busybox to see if that fixes the issue.
And this is on a normal Orange-branded handset that hasn't had the update applied.

Hello guys i m having 1.5 fireware but i want to update it to 2.0 How can i update it ? i cant find my proper ROM For it .. can anyone help me please .. sorry for my bad english .. Thanks In Advance.,.,

i dont know much How can i update it .. firstly i was Nokia user .. But seems like android is very complicated to understand .. please someone guide me .. i need to use bluethooth so i want to update it to 2.0.... if wants details about my phone than i can post it .,. Thanks

1.5 is the current firmware for Hero, there are some custom ROMs of 2.1 available but its not a straigh forward process to install these, especially if your english is limited, I suggest it maybe easier to find a forum in your native language if you want to root your hero, otherwise wait untill HTC release 2.1 officially

Ive been at this for hours and so far its just not working.

The Recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2 will not unzip
Ive put it on the SD card as a zipped file and still it wont work.
Ive read and reread the forums for hours and i just dont know what im doing wrong.

Im with Orange with the Rom build 2.73.61.5

First of all you need Amon Ra 1.6.2 (the latest) not 1.5.2

Then you put Amon Ra on the root of your SD card (do not zip it, rename it or put it in any folders)

Install flashrek...

Follow these instructions mate (Start from Number 2)

take your time dont rush. try and try again. you rom is rootable.

As someone mentioned either on this guide or on another thread, there should be a button @ the bottom which says Problems? you click that & it downloads another app which should fix this.
I was really nervous doing all this after bricking a Black Magic. Trust me though Problems? sorts out the Titanium Back up problems. Just follow the guide word for word & you'll do it :)
I have no experiance with Linux & Android. So if i can do it, anyone can. Just make sure you do a Nandroid back up before you wipe the lot & you'll be fine. I had to Nandroid restore a few times till i got it all working. Its been my saviour a few times.

Oh right. It is because I have an .iso program on my laptop that I see the file (which is actually a .img file) properly.

Ok, well ..just as it is from the download server (i.e. don't rename it or modify it) , put it on sd card... (not in any folders).. then follow the instructions and it should work

should be called this recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img

open the zip file it should contain the .img file, put this .img file in the root of your SD card

I just downloaded it, it downloads as a .img for me straight away and not in .zip format. I guess it depends if you have a program like poweriso / alcohol on your pc. Otherwise it may open with 7zip / winzip / winrar..

if it does come in a zip.. if you open it see whats inside..

if it is recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img then extract that and put it on sd card.

are you putting it into the SD card then runing flashrec from your phone and flashing the img from there?
