honnestly i don't remember what was the cpu in my old 1988 Tandy computer but i know our 1st actual pc was an Am386 sx 25mhz (used from 1991 till 1997 and yet i managed to run Quake on that comp lol)
then it goes in that order
intel 486 dx 2 66mhz (had it for a week then resold)
Pentium 133 mmx (packard bell pc 1997-1998)
Amd k6 266 (custom build not the 3d now one 1998-2001)
Intel Pentium 866 (Cicero/medion pc 2001-2003)
then i built my 1st
intel P2 400mhz and sold to a friend in 2003 for about 400$ lol
early 2003 i built an Athlon xp 1800+
2004-2006: Intel celeron D 2.4ghz (wasn't that bad honnestly)
then i bought my 1st complete factory built : Athlon 64 3500+ (Medion)
late 2007/early 2008 i started to build another
athlon 64 x2 5000+
mid 2008 swaped the cpu and motherboard
bought an Asus Crosshair off ebay for 120$ shipped (when retail price was over 300$
)
and a athlon 64 x2 6000+ (brisbane core /3.1ghz)
and late 2010 (october)
built my Phenom II x4 965 BE/ Asus M4n82D (tri-SLI)/GTX 460
of course if intel cpu were as cheap as amd i would go for it but now best bang for buck is AMD
(bad point is... whne i sold my 6000+/crosshair setup i left my 4x1gb OCZ gold ddr2(paid 400$ for mem) with
