Root Is 2.2 to 4.1 jump possible?

Its been months (if not a year by now) and I'm completely & officially sick of trying to work with Kies Mini. I've never been able to upgrade to official 2.3.5 and I'm done trying.

Is there ANY way to bypass the official gingerbread update and move my Captivate to a jellybean ROM (I don't mind if there are steps in between).

If I can, how would I do so? PS I'm not yet rooted.
