Is it possible to avoid legacy version of app being detected by developer?

As I am running Android 4.4.4 in order to get Todoist working on my phone I have downloaded and installed an old version of the app from APK Mirror.

It works great, the only problem is I get regular reminders from Todoist telling me they have noted I am using an old version and it will cease to work in five days. I contacted them regarding finding a resolution, the response being to use the web app.

Is there any way around this?

Ideally it would be connected to internet for syncing purposes as I use it on desktop as well.

For this app, checking for update maybe is a behavior by design. Go through its options to find if there is anyone to disable the checking action.
