Help Is it possible to set a custom notification tone?

I have been trying to figure out this for the past 2 days now, I have my contacts set up with their own custom ring tones but I want a custom sound for when I receive text messages but I cant figure out how to get the one I want to show up on the list, all I get is the default choices

Make a folder on your sdcard named 'notifications' and it should appear as an option (a reboot might be required to make it scan the sdcard for media again).

thank you for the help! its working but there is another problem now..for some reason the volume of the ones I add are very low (I have the sound turned up and the default ones are all loud, just the ones I add into the folder sound low, and I have tested them as regular sound files and they dont sound that low normally)

How do they compare to music files played at the same volume? They may need amplifying.

I have the same problem. The songs are super loud but when i set them to use as notifications, they are impossibly quiet and there is no way to make them any louder. I use loud songs for my custom text notification specifically so I can hear them no matter where i am in my apartment and wont miss a text from that certain someone but i cant even hear these when im two feet away. :-/ not happy about this. and no i dont use stock text, i use handcent sms. doesnt seemto make a difference.

I also have the same problem, the sound is so low. I called a couple local dealers about five minutes ago and they have no idea what to do. There has to be a way to fix this.

try install ZEDGE.....u can use song for notification song...try it...
