is the galaxy tab obsolete

I know that todays technology is going to be surpassed in a very short amount of time. Have the new tablets announced at CES (Xoom and Adam) done this to the Galaxy Tab.

I am looking at getting a tablet and was wondering if I should get the Tab or should I wait until some of the new tablets hit the stores? I am not much of a tech person but I know that a dual core processor sounds better than a single core processor. Same thing with 1 gig of ram vs. 512 MBs. And 3.0 sounds better than 2.2.

But is it enough of a difference for me to wait or should I go ahead and pull the trigger on the Galaxy Tab?

If you need one, you could pull the trigger, but you may want to hold out at least as long as you can. Others may disagree with me but IMO the galaxy tab is a overgrown cellphone and luckily for me my brother trade me his new laptop for mine. I can't seriously recommend it as I hated it but it may be exactly what your looking for. To me it does what my phone does just on a bigger screen, but when your a tech junkie and you have try out everything that comes out every once in a while you eat it. Typing on the keyboard as awkward to say the least and in some ways outright uncomfortable.

Yes its obsolete. Just like the iPad.
There will always be something better, but in this case the Tab was doomed to fail. It's nothing more than a money grab device.

LOL. The iPad is still selling like crazy, its about to hit 14 million sold and it just came out nine months ago. When the iPad 2 comes out in a few months, it will be the same thing all over again except bigger this time because people already know what it is and what it does. There have been tablets with better specs than the iPad since before it was even released, but they are the ones that are obsolete, not the iPad.

I wouldn't say obsolete but definitely not worth its current price tag even more so than before. Just like the ipad, I suspect a price drop so its best to wait before buying the galaxy tab. I, say, if it can still run most of the current apps then its not obsolete.

I want to try and get one in the next 4-6 weeks. Any idea if the Xoom will be in stores by then? If not what is another good one I should be looking at?

If u can wait 4-6 weeks then your decision might be a little easier since we'll know more on tablet release dates in february. If I were still in the market for a tablet, I would wait but have my g-tablet to keep me busy until I find the tablet that I really want.

I would definitely hold off for a month or two. First off, some really nice android tabs will hit the market soon. Prices of the current gen tabs like the Galaxy will drop because of this IMHO. The Galaxy Tab isn't a bad device at all, but it's pretty much an entry level device running a software not optimized for it. I would wait for honeycomb and the moto Xoom or even better the new Asus tabs if I were you. That's what I'm doing.

The galaxy tab is awesome if you want a tablet right not. I have one and I love it. I bought it off craigslist and use it wifi only or on my hotspot.

The ipad is also a good option. Every hipster and hipster wannabe at CES had an iPad.

Both of these tablets are awesome at what they do.

Based on what I saw I highly doubt you will have very many good choices in the next 12 months. Xoom will be big hit. Playbook is golden. Gallapagos is crap. hanvon options are good but will never be mainstream.Adam will be hot is its built well and ever ships. Tmoblie tablet maybe?

If you want a cheap china tab your golden. Lots of those. Most are crap.

If at least some of the showings at CES don't hit by late Q2 it will be dissapointing. The upcoming Asus tabs look very nice. The Xoom will probably be the soonest a top notch android tab is released. Adam also looks great, and isn't it shipping soon? Playbook does nothing for me as I would never go back to BB. Any chinese knockoff is likely to have many issues -they are a real crapshoot.

I was at ces 2010 as well and none of the tabs I looked at hit the mainstream market.

Playbook is awesome due to true multi-tasking. It's legit. The issues is the reliance on a blackberry to handle email and other base apps. They need the playbook to be a stand -alone device for it to be a winner in my book.
