Just Picked Up S5 Any Tips?

kevinmcc

Newbie
Hey all just picked up my S5 today and so far I am likign it pretty good switching from the iphone 5.

Was wondering if you guys have any tips that I can use in regards to the phone to speed it up.

Also i seem to always have 1.2 of 1.8 gb of RAM used all the time is this normal? Seems to be a bit high but I dont know if that is normal for the android.

Also does closing out all my applications after i get donee using the phone save battery or should i just leave them open so i they reopen faster?

For the best tips on how to use your s5 you should go to youtube and just type "tip on galaxy s5" in the search tab. That's how I learned how to use mine. Took about a week but i'm pretty good at it now.

I have picked up a bunch of tips just now, switching off some settings in the dev section..

One thing that bugs me with this phone is it takes about 1 sec to wake up from a black screen after waking it up... anyone know how to fix this?

Anything left running on the phone is using the processor -- and that is using the battery. To save battery, I would close the apps when you're not using them. Also, consider using Power Saver mode.

dunno what you have set different.

Mine presents the unlock pattern screen instantly.

When I draw the pattern correctly, maybe 1/10th second to display home page.

I can't complain about that, and even if it were a full second, still would not bother me.

I'm not sure but it is bugging me a lot since I am coming from an iPhone and it was instantly.

It seems like the longer the phone is on the longer it takes to wake up. The phone is brand new and att so I'm not sure what else to change or do.

Everything else seems fine

You are probably seeing transition effect on unlocking screen. Sometimes it could take a little longer. I'm personally not bothered by this but there are easy tips to remove it and make UI faster. This is a good link on it.

How to Make Your Samsung Galaxy S5 Faster

my personal opinion on iphone vs android is...

iphone has stability but it comes with much restriction..

android is like a computer (windows or linux) yeah it may slow down over time.. but its up to the user to 'use' it properly and not like a 13 year old girl (just an example) lol meaning not leaving 20 diff chat apps open while watching videos on youtube and playing farmville etc..

but also with android the possibilities are literally endless!!!! it's just a matter of how hard you can think on what to make your phone do for YOU :D

this was not an insult to anyone i was just stating my personal opinion :D

but if your all about stability and snappy reactions vs open freedom and customization/personalization.. than iphone is for you.

as for me, i love to tinker.. so ill never buy an iphone EVER, and ipods too i hate them.. only because the limitation to itunes lol, i love the good ol days of drag and drop :D

Well that depends what that person refers to as stock

There is stock vanilla: which means it purely android only, no additional ui like samsungs touchwiz or htc's sense ui so yes 8t will be very fast if built properly for the specific device.. (which most cases there is always something that doesnt work right) but you lose the brand specific funtions like your fi gerprint reader etc..

Or there is stock debloated roms: which is the actual stock rom from your phone (touchwiz ui included) and someone basically removed all the extra useless apps that use up precious space and ram. This option is usually better because you still have full brand funtionality, meaning most everything can and should work.. depending on what the specific developer removed from his or her rom..

Speed of the device itself falls under how hard you use it imo..

And yes there is a way to revert back to stock as long as you can access download mode (samsung devices) you can use odin to cometely restore stock :)
