Just spotted first ICS RUU

Warning! If you use the RUU mentioned herewith, know that you can't very easily go back to your old GB RUU. Downgrading the build number is possible, but impossible unless gain superuser rights on your phone. For details on how to downgrade, refer to "+ How to downgrade RUU..." section at bottom of [Guide] Root Desire S with hboot 2.0 and S-ON

HTC Desire S Ice Cream Sandwich RUU hits HTCDev | Android Goodies "This RUU is only meant for advanced users, there are many users who aren’t able to install it, so it is better to wait for the OTA update or an official statement from HTC."

I would wait for the OTA update as recommended unless you root and have time to mess around.

The famous thread over at xda... Saga Shipped ROM Collection, led me to the first Desire S ICS RUU.

The xda/filefactory linked RUU took forever and corrupted at around 280MB.
Googled alternatives. Found Russian share, through xda with md5: a8bb6133f6c6f592846e01b43e905706.

File from Russian site was flagged WS.Reputation.1 (Bad reputation) and removed by Norton. md5 checked a8bb6133f6c6f592846e01b43e905706. Tried it anyway.
Worked for me and the SIM remained unlocked.

HTCdev.com removed the download from their site. Bugs, branding or something else?

HTCdev has uploaded same RUU.
You can find it at http://htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads

The file is in zip format. Includes a "HTC ROM Upgrade Utility.pdf" help file and the same
Code:
RUU_SAGA_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_14.01.401.2_Radio_20.76.30.0835_3831.19.00.110_release_275068_signed.exe"
file (binary compared) that I downloaded previously.
The RUU~.exe MD5 is "a8bb6133f6c6f592846e01b43e905706"

So maybe there was nothing wrong with it?

What's your take on ICS on the Desire S? Liking it?
Hi.
I flashed the RUU and tried my SIM to see if it locked (which it didn't). As far as trying out ICS 4.0.4 for the Desire S; I've only gone to switch Fastboot off and enable USB debugging, as I tried downgrading back to GB.
Now that I sorted that out and HTCdev have the ICS RUU back on their site, I'll probably put this official WWE 4.0.4 back on.
I should probably run some performance benchmarks for the official GB 2.3.5 I've got loaded first, so I can compare performance.

I got two Desire S. One staying official unrooted that I use daily, the others my little plaything

I'll be interested to see how the Desire S handles it. My previous handset (the Desire HD) is pretty similarly specced and was scheduled to receive the update until very recently. HTC cited performance issues, but the general feeling was it was a commercial decision. If the S handles it fine, I'd presume the HD would too.

I'm rather envious, I'd quite like a couple of phones to mess about with too! :)

I installed the RUU update a couple of days ago on an unrooted Desire S. Apart from the zip file being 404MB large and taking ages to download the installation was simple (as per the instructions in the PDF contained with the zip file) and so far so good.

There appears to be some doubts as to whether HTC are going to make available an OTA installation.

I installed the RUU a week back. Now the fonts appear small. Can any one tell me how to make it bigger?. My test messages (sms) are not working properly. I am not able to copy or dial the underlined telephone numbers or email address. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I installed the new software on my un-rooted stock Desire S last Thursday and have had no problems at all so far.

Yes, the fonts are slightly smaller but I think they are smarter and I like the new font and have no problems reading anything.

Everything seems slightly quicker than it was before the upgrade and apart from the small oddity (like not having GPS toggle in the quick settings menu) everything is great.

The battery life was a bit worse for the first few days but honestly I think that was due to me playing with the phone constantly after the upgrade.

Today when I left for work my phone was on 100% (charged overnight) and by 3pm after 7 hours off charge and a few short phone calls and a few texts it was still on 100%. Never used to be that good before the upgrade.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Re the font size, Google changed the default font in ICS to roboto. It's meant to look better on higher resolution screens and tablets (as ICS is a unified OS). Maybe that's why it seems smaller.

Hi, I've updated my Desire S with the new HTC ICS RUU. Everything has been running pretty smoothly apart from whenever I need to do something which requires adding a date ie adding a calendar entry. The selector has defaulted to the US date format ie mm/dd/yy. Does anyone know how to get it back to the UK format dd/mm/yy?
I have English selected as the Language, but it is identified as English (United States) when selected and there is no option for a English (United Kingdom)

Cheers

Yes, thanks to you, I have also realised this.
Used More Locale 2 to change to English (Australia) from USA, but it doesn't change the date selector. We need a specific app to change the date selector I think.

EDIT: Found solution; http://androidforums.com/htc-desire-s/617410-change-language-date-selector-ics-wwe-us-english.html

Just tried updating to the WWE version off the HTC Dev site and it starts the update process but then stops, and the phone shows:

RUU
Security fail!
Update fail!

The phone is a completely stock HTC Desire S.

Any ideas?

Try creating a GoldCard: http://androidforums.com/desire-s-all-things-root/500543-guide-how-create-goldcard.html

Whats a GoldCard?
A Micro SD Card which has been GoldCard modified allows running a RUU (Rom Update Utility) that is specified for another region and/or carrier to whats on the phone currently, be it factory or otherwise. If you need to downgrade, you can use misc_version which can be combined with a GoldCard to basically use whatever RUU you wish.

Have you unlocked your bootloader previously?
If so, perhaps you will need to relock your bootloader.

I've noticed two phone features that no longer work since updating my Desire S with the RUU

1. Selecting a URL etc in an SMS or MMS, will not open the URL in the Internet App. In fact nothing happens. The same applies to things like phone numbers sent in an SMS, not opening the default app when selected

2. Selecting an Internet app link in to an rtsp streaming feed (ie Orange Mobile TV) will not invoke the Streaming Media Player and I am presented with a 'Webpage not available' message

If anyone has a solution to get these working I'd love to hear. Cheers

I have upgraded both mine and my wife's Desire S using HTCs ICT upgrade. Mine is fine, but my wife's keeps forgetting which network its on. We can reset it manually, but then when it moves out of range, it loses it again. Has anyone else experienced this or has a solution for it?
