I'm unable to launch the update.zip via Vol Up+Home+Power so I attempted via adb and I receive the Status 7 error.

After that failed I figured I'd check to see if I could get 2.2 for my phone. Kies tells me there's a firmware upgrade to I897xxx7 (sorry forget the version name). I attempt to upgrade it however Kies crashes at the same point each time. I then tried on my 2nd pc and the same problem happened. I tried to update Kies on both however I ended up doing a full reinstall. Kies now does not recognize my phone on both computers yet windows (32b XP) does.

    Also reinstalled USB drivers.*

So to sum it up, I cannot root, cannot get Kies to recognize my phone, and cannot upgrade the firmware.

    Help!

    Firmare: 2.1u1
    Baseband: I897UCJF6
    Kernel: 2.6.29, jetaek.lee@sep-11 #2

Complete uninstall KIES and the samsung drivers, and then reinstall KIEs again. Also format your internal SD card.

Tried, no such luck. Still says device not supported in kies.

Edit: any way to update to 2.2 without kies?
