Root LTE Root Question

first off, Ive checked the forums and search, and cant find the answer to my particular problem.

Ive recently rooted my new LTEvo, (version 651.1 and S-ON) with by the HTC DEV method, that went flawlessly. I then attempted to flash Viper ROM (the newest one, version 3.1.x.x or so) and got stuck in a boot-loop, which i think has to do with the kernel not flashing correctly due to being S-ON.

Ive owned the OG Evo and the 3VO, and on the 3VO I know youd have to go in through fastboot in order to flash the kernel properly. I cant find the stock kernel on here or any other website (for the LTEvo) and am kind of at a loss at to what to do.
Ive tried Viper 3.0.0.0 and the Venom IMG flasher but cant get the kernel to flash right.

Is there any other way to get the kernel to flash correctly, or maybe a ROM that uses the stock kernel if that is indeed my problem?

actually the viper had the kernel installer i believe. but i think it is the fact that you might not be on the latest firmware which is creating the issue.

what is your radio and hboot?

and if you are s-on you need to be s-off. you can't update firmware with s-on per se. you will have to re-lock and take the ota then unlock again and finally get a recovery. sort of a pain to do. now we have s-off for the phone so that is what i would suggest first.

we now have a new s-off method....check it out:

after that you can then upgrade your firmware:
