    Reference Thread

I'm demoing a Droid X due to some problems with the Fascinate's software.

I have two problems with the X. The first is I don't like the hard buttons as much as the Fascinate's soft buttons. That really can't be addressed.

The second problem is the general smoothness. Maybe that can be addressed. Changing home screens just isn't that smooth. Loading my apps list hitches before it loads. Both of these are smooth as butter on my Fascinate.

I've loaded LauncherPro as I did on the Fascinate. One of the things I love to do when bored is keep hitting the home key and watching the home screens collapse and explode. On the Fascinate, it's completely smooth. Again, on the X, it isn't smooth. In fact, the home screen graphics might look a little more aliased.

Is there any way to improve the graphical performance on the X? I might switch phones if there is.

I had a similar question earlier and got some feedback. Here is my experience:

1-launcher pro made a HUGE DIFFERENCE. There are also some options on how quickly you want the app drawer to load and bounceback between screen changes. These make a big different too.

2-take off live wallpapers. They look nice but the Droid x has trouble with it.

3- play with some Rome. Rubicon and apex are nice though I hear nice things from fission

4-overclock. Even at 1.1 my phone seems just that extra bit smoother.

Results aren't perfect. I came from an incredible with sense that was smooth as butter. Maybe as Roms progress well get a better ui

If it were rooted, I would say autokiller and launcherproplus. Autokiller is not a 'task killer', it adjusts the memory mgmt setting in android at the OS level and android does the rest.

I'll add that since getting my DX, I don't think I've noticed a significant impact from the live wallpapers. One thing you can do is remove all the widgets and turn of LWP and reboot. See how it performs, then start adding stuff back in and see if anything causes a snag.

Root, setcpu, droidxoverclock... I have mine set at 1.15 ghz at LOW voltage.... better battery, still smooth. I've used ADW and Launcher pro - both had some lag issues, but were better than stock. I now use ZEAM launcher and it is smoother than both. It's a free, lightweight launcher. Only think you can't do is add exta rows/colums to your screens, but it doesn't lag so I get by without that option. I quit using autokiller - didn't see an improvement.

All you need is Launcher Pro. Ditch the motoblur junk.

Launcher Pro lags. Try ADW launcher and remove motoblur and its smooth.

Rooted and de blurred, this phone is powerful and smoother. I over clock sometimes but it is really not necessary.

Anyone who is experiencing Launcher Pro lag, did you clear off your Motoblur desktop before installing it?

Seems like a lot of the people who get lag just installed Launcher Pro over the default Motoblur desktop which is full of widgets, and they all sit there running behind LP. Clear off your Motoblur desktop before installing LP.

Launcher Pro for me is smooth as butter, especially after the newest update. You can try Go Launcher, ADW Launcher, Zeam Launcher, or the stock gingerbread launcher if you want your Droid X to look completely stock and run smooth.

My phone was smoothe before other then occasional app drawer lag, and the lock screen lag.

Just last couple days after the OTA i rooted with z4root. Then installed fab's new apex rom which deodexes it as well, and I can't believe how smooth it is now. There is never any lag on anything no matter how many apps I have open, and the battery life is even better.

I highly recommend, root, download boostrapper make nandroid backup, then download fabs new rom to make your phone what it should be without all verizons bloat.
