I was in the store and this very well-educated man comes over to me and asks me if I want help. I said I was only there to look at the Bionic. He answered eloquently saying something like, "Perhaps you'd like to gather information and when you have more, I could be of service to you." He said it better than that. So I asked him, why he was working there. He was obviously some highly educated CEO or something.
I figured either I had insulted him or complimented him. He took it the right way.
We discussed the Bionic, quadrant scores, speedtest, etc. I told him about my rooted DX. He was kind enough to tell me that if I ever had trouble with my DX to unroot it first before I returned it! I thought that was interesting for two reasons.
Firstly, I had known that already and secondly, we are having this moral debate on whether it is right or wrong to do so, once the warranty is breached and how to handle it on our forums.
So, I told him that if rooting were the cause, I would eat it, but if it was a hardware problem, I'd restore the system and return it, because I felt that returning a phone for rooted related problems would definitely be immoral. He agreed. Besides, I can fix any OS/Rooting related problem on my phone, anyway.
We went on and on talking about stuff and I told him about the Vigor (I think I called it the Viper by mistake!) and the Nexus/Droid Prime. He had heard about that. I rattled off some rumored specs to him. After I purchased some accessories for my wife's and son's phones, he did something that really impressed me.
He took my info (business card) because he said he would like to keep in touch in order to stay on top of Android info. I asked him if he was going to report me as a rooter. He laughed.
So, I told him I was a moderator on Android Forums. I told him to come down. I'd help him out and show him around. (That's what I do here. I'm really a glorified guide.
) I have his business card and he has mine. I hope he signs up here.
What really impressed me about him was that he was interested in learning and recognized the fact that I had information he didn't. True humility. You can't learn without recognizing that you need to learn. This guy was amazing. He impressed me as being someone who could be a corporate leader or big wig. I hope he joins up and flags me down.
Some folks put VZW employees down. I don't. I've had quite a different experience all around.
