I'm assuming that you've already tried switching Airplane mode on and off and/or rebootting it.
Take out your sim card and put it back in. It may have been knocked loose. If it's dirty you can clean it with Windex or something non-abrasive and alcohol-free.

The next step would be going into Settings > Mobile Networks > APN settings. Be sure that you're on the correct APN.

Go in to Settings > About Phone > Status.
Press and hold on your IMEI number and it will copy it to the clipboard.
You can check if the IMEI number is blacklisted online for free. Swappa.com is a site that can check. Just paste it and go.

Edit: nevermind, but you'll still need to call Metro and or purchase a new sim. If the phone is unlocked you could even get a bring your own device Sim kit for other carriers like Cricket.
