Should I accept the newest OTA today or wait till the experts weigh in?

What build number is the update? Online it says 9.20.1 but the update I got says 9.18.79

And root is good if you use OTA rootkeeper!

Same here. Gonna wait. Hopefully Dan Rozenberg will offer advice.

    I wouldn't get it.

I'm on a different ROM, so I can't get it anyways.

Keep in mind this gets rid of the ability to unlock boot loader. So if you think you might want to unlock it and flash some ROMs, don't get it.

Yea use VoodooOTA root keeper. This OTA patches the BL unlock so if you haven't unlocked via motoapocolypse your chance will be gone. Root is reported to still work with motochopper in a pinch.

Yes, it does! I just rooted today and ended up losing it today as well...Any ideas on how I get it back? I used Motochopper by Dan Rosenberg. It says I got the SU and the Superuser app, but it says Failure when it starts to root.

  7. any update on this? my rootkeeper didn't work i guess :(

Somebody on another forum got it working:

Software update is rolling out - Page 2 - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

    (ymmv tho)

I'm not sure if anything can be done if you've already updated and lost root, though. Sorry. Check other razr hd forums. Maybe the droidrzr.com forums, or xda.

From the sources I've seen, this new ota is a total lockdown. Bootloader workaround and root methods are gone. Update at your own risk.

Well, I guess that answers my questions in a couple other areas! The good news is that everything pretty much works as it did before. I was really only using the root to be able to automatically reboot the phone during a Tasker program anyway.

Boot loader keys haven't changed so you can flash backwards, root and flash ota. Can't BL unlock after the radio is updated though.

I updated today on accident and lost my root. I hadnt installed any of the ota root protector or voodoo and was still on a stock rom. I am now unrooted and motochopper fails. Seems as of now I am at the mercy of some devs finding a new way around the updates.

Normally I can solve my problems by reading through other's experiences so i dont post often.

  14. It kinda makes me a tad nervous because, especially having come to the HD Maxx from the Droix X, this phone doesn't seem to get much dev attention. I love the thing, glad I got it, but it's no dev community pet, that's for sure.

  15. yes i agree. this will be my last moto phone for sure. going back to HTC or getting an S4.

Xda is much more active on this phone. Even managed to unlock the radio so it can be used on att or T-Mobile.
Xda has gotten quite mean lately. People here are more friendly.

I decided to go for it.

    I was already rooted prior.

I had Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper installed. Click "Protect Root". Then click "Temp un-root".

    I installed the OTA.

After OTA install and reboot I went into Voodoo and chose "Restore Root".

Opened Root Checker, clicked Verify and voila I have root!

Go into Settings, About Phone and see 9.18.79.x926.

Checked numerous root apps, Titanium, Root Explorer...I am rooted.
