The newest version of the Dolphin Browser (v 1.29) is multi-touch enabled (pinch zoom) for the Droid. It's not as smooth as I'd like, but pretty darn good for a first effort. Note to Mods: Perhaps this should be in the Android Application forum?
how's the speed compared to the android browser? the native webkit browser is widely considered the quickest.
How do I make pinch/zoom not be kinetic? That is I don't want it to keep zooming after I've lifted my fingers
The multitouch zoom is too imprecise to be useful. Double-tap zooming seems to be gone. Doesn't zoom in for text fields as far as I can tell. A good start, but not nearly good enough to replace the default browser. Not by a long shot.
The typing on the browser sucks good start but on the phandroid forum tryin to log on but it sucks and I agree on the multitouch zooming it sucks
what i really like is you can hide the tabs at the top and quick switch between windows by swiping side to side. i love this cause i like to switch to another page while one is loading (take full advantage of that multitask )
ok i amend my previous statment. this browser doesn't seem to run in the backround. normally i can start loading a page and hit home and view ifk a txt message while the page loads and then go back into the browser and it's loaded. dolphin doesn't seem to do this. still like it though, very fast
It's not bad..renders pretty well for me..agreed that the multi touch needs tweaking a bit for control. It would also be great if it started with entire page view.
seems like there are a lot of other good things here...the whole idea of gestures is finally coming around. that will make a much better overall experience once i set it up! multi-touch is a little flaky but nice start!
On a side note, on verizon 3g it is rendering nearly as fast as my 3gs is on wifi. ahh and now my droid has crashed again...
Here are two things I figured out. 1. The multitouch zoom still zooms in specific incriments like using the + and - buttons on the default browser. It is not smooth zoom like the iPhone. That is why it continues to zoom in and out after you take your fingers off the screen.. 2. Turning off auto fit page makes it work much much better, but auto fit page is a great feature that you do not really want to lose. Go to dolphin settings then scroll to the bottom and select system settings and uncheck auto fit page. Without smooth zooming, I still like the double tap zoom much better.
lol yeah it's quite the "feature". I haven't been able to pin it down. I don't run with too much going in the background and it hasn't happened with any particular app running...other than core apps. Touchdown is the one thing running all the time.
I am using it now to type this message. It is a great start. I have gotten used to the efficiency of the double tap but I am sure this will be up to par soon. Its a great option to have. The beauty of Android
I can't wait until we root the Droid. The droid browser is capable of multitouch (pinch to zoom) but is disabled by Motorola I'm guessing in fear of a lawsuit from Apple. It is a trivial setting to enable it once its rooted.
