I would like to know if the nexus s now selling in canada like at telus, if I buy one unlocked, will it be OTA update free like if I were buying one from negri or its gonna be OTA delayed like the nexus one selled by videotron in canada?
They are always unlocked and OTA is always free
no nexus one sold by videotron are still stocked with 2.2.1 ... thats why I fear to buy the phone from a carrier
That can't be maybe 2.3.1 but that's because Google has stopped 2.3.3 till they resolve some issues. No way its 2.2.1
**** yeah its 2.2.1! videotron block the ota ! like rogers and any other carrier with any other android phone here. the phone here get the ota delayed
That makes no sense at all that completely defeats the purpose of the Nexus line. If I were Canadian I would just order it from the US. I still can't believe that would be the case because google won't allow carriers in the US to alter the nexus line, so why would they let Canadian carriers?
I don't know for certain, but as far as I can tell, there is nothing special about the Videotron version of the Nexus One. Videotron themselves appear to block the OTA updates, but you can still update manually through the recovery menu (without rooting).
I don't know about the Videotron version in Quebec, but all versions here in Ontario are the same - unlocked and OTA is available. I have one from Rogers in Ontario and it works great, is unlocked, and OTA should not be an issue. I can't really see any reason why the Videotron version would be different since Google wants all carriers to offer the same basic device.Although you can that's ****ed up damn commies

What's weird about it? Nexus phones are all supposed to be the same, that's the point of it - continuity across carriers. Google also wants to stop the fragmentation of OS versions by having all phones use the same OS version with the same interface. This is one of the good things about the iPhone - they're all the same regardless of where you get it. But once you have a device, you can then customize it any way you want with widgets, apps, skins, whatever.well this is just weird it doesnt make any sense ?? Why would google allow this, I dont believe they would

Oh I just re-read your post and I think you mean it's weird that Google would allow a carrier to block updates. Yes...that's weird and I agree.
no the nexus one selled by videotron do not receive ota because videotron block them... the nexus one selled by video are not the same kernel as a unlocked nexus one selled by google last year

People should do their homework. How hard is it to check a web site?
(Samsung / Nexus S) - Appareils mobile
According to the Videotron web site, the Videotron Nexus S comes with 2.3, not 2.2.1.
Frank, if you have proof to the contrary, please provide it.
Let's all learn the facts, before we start calling people "commies".

My bad. I was looking at his original post, and had Nexus S stuck in my brain.
Apparently the Videotron N1 is to get an update in April, but it is not clear what the update exactly will be.
Android Bugle: Vidéotron Nexus One to get upgraded in April
Well, I imagine that carriers want to test the update first to make sure there will be no problem with their system. Imagine if it somehow conflicted with the system and people couldn't get text messages, etc. all those people would be complaining to the carrier, so they do their due diligence first.
I know that when an update goes out for a non-google phone, like we went through with the HTC Magic, it goes from google to the OEM, who adds on their stuff, and then to the carrier for testing. Once the carrier finishes testing, they tell the OEM to push it out.
This may simply be Videotron testing it, and then saying to Google to go ahead and push it.
I don't think they are blocking something that would otherwise be streming right this second, rather, Google likely hasn't pushed it to the Videotron devices yet.
We need more info, I suppose.
Here's a thread to watch: http://www.nexusoneforum.net/forum/videotron/10168-updating-videotrons-n1-12.html
Why the hell would Videotron block an OTA that's coming DIRECTLY from Google?**** yeah its 2.2.1! videotron block the ota ! like rogers and any other carrier with any other android phone here. the phone here get the ota delayed
