No trackball/pad = more fragmentation?

It's been about 3 or 4 phones ago since the last time I've had a trackball and I don't miss it.

All I can say is I didn't use the track ball when I got my Hero when I got rid of my Blackberry. So no its so much better then being stuck due to this.

I never used it on the hero, and I definitely don't miss it on the evo. I bet that after a week or so of using the phone and learning different ways to do things, most people will forget they ever relied on it so much.

I'm glad it's gone. I never used it except for in recovery screen.

Does the fact the EVO lacks a trackball present any usability problems? I've played around with a few non-trackball Android phones and editing a text message was a real pain. In other words, it's hard to navigate around a text (or other message) without a trackball. I have fat fingers!

Does anyone that used to have a trackball-equipped phone, miss it on their EVO?

Two things I miss it for...

Rapidly scrolling through typed text. The keyboard has arrow keys but you must tap them repeatedly to move through the text. You can't long press and move it rapidly.

Secondly, when scrolling through the people you can't move the ball left or right to switch between home/work/cell numbers. You must "View Contact" to look at the different numbers. Even the little arrow is there beside the number indicating you could scroll to the side if you had something to scroll with...

Neither of those issues are important enough for me to care and I hadn't even thought about it for several weeks now until reading your post. So you won't miss it after awhile!

There are times that I wish I had a trackball or a trackpad. But most of the time I don't miss out at all.

I honestly barley ever used the track pad on my Samsung Moment so not having it on my Evo doesn't really bother me.

I came from the Hero to the Evo. Honestly, I never recall using the trackball on the Hero for anything other than a toy for my bored thumb when not using the phone. Definitely don't miss it.

I used it for side scroller games like Replica Island (a MUST download game, it's a fun time killer)

I miss it a little but realize a couple of arrow keys on swype would fix all of my issues.

Use the keyboard editing keyboard. Just swype from the Swype key to the SYM key and you get arrow keys.

For text editing, recall that the Evo has 4 cursor arrows.

I would agree except I use swype and a modded keyboard so I don't have those arrows. I would like a trackball or anything in order to edit text sometimes.
