Really? You're a photographer with "several DLSRs" and you think there's an advantage to packing more than 5 megapixels into a sensor that's probably somewhere around 1/8"?
I don't understand. What do you think the advantage is, here?
I mean, look at Canon's brand new, just announced, $7,000 flagship model. They dropped 3 megapixels off the 1Ds series even though they're using the same size sensor. Why? Well, sure, there are multiple reasons other than image quality, but the reality is they could not get away with doing this on their flagship pro model if megapixels were directly correlated with image quality.
There's a loose correlation but it assumes a lot of things, like a high quality sensor, excellent glass, good support, plenty of light...
As a fellow photographer, I'm always disappointed to see people involved in an industry propagating myths that we should really be working to dispel. Only once people are educated to the subject will the camera makers stop this ridiculous race to higher and higher megapixels, sacrificing image quality along the way.
