Our (not so) Great president.

He could do no wrong. Said so himself once after the Bay of Pigs fiasco / bloodbath.

Senators make poor presidents. Look at who we have now.

Executive experience makes a big difference.

He stuck us in Vietnam, stuck us with LBJ and promises to "end discrimination with the stroke of a pen" and then promptly forgot that promise once elected.

He gave great speeches though and importantly was the 2nd to the last Democrat that was anticommunist ever to be elected.

I will play this game.

Would you prefer that we become like other countries? Let's become China. We're selfish? Why do we donate more things to more countries around the world than any other country? (That is probably the result of sticking our noses into other people's business too often, but there it is.)

Because we do not want to focus on the problems we have in our own country? They're all around. Wait, no, Mare-kuh is perfect.

So, anyway. Let's start with our previous president Mr. GWB. Alot of people blame him for the economy problems yada yada. The finger needs to be pointed at Bill Clinton. For it is he and his administration that caused this economic failure. How do you ask? Through his "everyone should own a home" policies, he stronghanded banks into giving loans to people who shouldn't have gotten them in the first place. I know someone who 5 years ago got a 200k home loan making 7/hr with no down payment. Plain stupid. And it is exactly that, that made the economy collapse. With all these people buying homes and couldn't really afford them caused an artificial increase in demand, resulting in an artificial boom and price increase on homes, that were only really worth a fraction of what was paid. Now what happens when all these people, cant afford to make thier payments? Well the housing market gets oversaturated and the market plummits. Thats exactly what happened.

Let's LOWER TAXES at a TIME OF WAR. This way, we'll have plenty of money to fund... Wait.
Clinton had a BALANCED BUDGET and a FEDERAL SURPLUS. I'm sure being monetarily responsible led to all sorts of monetary issu... Oh.
How is it Bill Clinton's fault that someone you know, who doesn't seem to understand money, got a house loan?
If you can't afford something don't buy it. Nah, i have a credit card to pay it off, and i'll pay that off with my other credit card. Good thing it's the credit card company and Bill Clinton's fault that I am so irresponsible with my money.

Now how the banks failed:

What happens when you loan out billions of dollars for properties that are only worth millions? And what happens when the consumers stop sending in checks for those loans? Simple right? You foreclose, sell the house and get your money back. Easy. Not really. The house they loaned 400k for is now only worth 180k, so the banks lose thier hats foreclosing, plus no-one is buying the houses, and there is a supply to demand ratio that makes real estate agents cringe. So now the bank is stuck with properties they cant sell, AND have to pay taxes on. The banks collapse. The banks you see buying up other banks were the few who didn't succomb to the Clinton administration and were smart about who they lent money too. They are in great shape.

Something is worth what anyone is willing to pay for it.
It is not your fault when you don't take care of your responsibilities, Bill Clinton held a gun to my head and made me buy a house that I couldn't afford. Just like Obama made me trade in my clunker and buy a car I can't afford because I got a sweet deal on it.
I lost my hat yesterday in Pittsburgh, it was windy.
It is possible the banks should not have been so, what's the word, greedy. They gave the loans out to these people, they are supposed to do credit checks/background checks/a lot to ensure that they will get their money back.

Why the banks failures and housing market crash killed the economy:
People get scared easy. When they saw this happening, people lined up to pull their money out of banks and investments causing more bank failure and the stock market to plummit. Its a huge snowball affect. With companies losing money, and people holding on to their money more tightly, companies need to make cutbacks to stay alive, so here come the layoffs. Less circulation leads to more of the same. Now people are out of jobs, all because of Bill Clinton and his administration, allowing people who cannot afford homes buy them.
Summary:
This is undeniable fact. It cannot be disputed. Don't even try, it's like arguing with gravity. GWB in fact did not have anything to do with the economy collapse, it was all Bill Clinton and his team.

Is the first part from the 20s? Thought so...
Spelling and grammar are usually important when trying to sound smart and make an argument. Otherwise, your meaning gets diluted.
Bill Clinton personally handed out loans.
Have you been to Gravity Hill? I argued with it and I won.

And one more thing... Since when is 7 years more than a quarter, wait, half their life, hold on, more than 1/3 of someone's life? And why did that number/percent change in each successive post? Because I highly doubt that in first grade, they are already training to become a doctor. Are they overpaid? Probably. Do they do something worthy of making money? Yea, I guess. Do the schools take advantage of this, and should we turn our attention there? Something to think about. It could be argued either way. Higher pay gets better training, maybe?

People need to start pointing fingers of blame into a mirror more often. You were given a brain to use it, not to use it for powers of deduction beyond reason to ensure you can sleep better at night because you can rationalize it being someone else's fault. Stand up, take responsibility, be a man.

Remind me to play some more later, for now, bed time.

That really doesn't address my response to how selfish and screwed up we are, but OK, play your own way. I never said we were perfect, but when people stomp around screaming that we're doing it wrong, I want you to point out to me someone that is doing it right. No one's shit smells like roses.

Have you been to Gravity Hill? I argued with it and I won.

<snip and on to something actually reasonable (and coherent, even) but unfortunately it was applied to the wrong argument. NEWSFLASH: Evil rich people DID screw over the working man, but just as many of those are in the Democratic Party, too.>

I have no intentions of being a man, but the rest of it is reasonable if I had been blaming Obama for how screwed up things are. I don't think he's doing a very good job and he's making a lot of problems worse. I don't fault him for what's happened, but I really don't have the faith that I would like to have in my president that we'll overcome this hurdle. So again, ask someone else to play because your rhetoric does not apply to me.

Have a nice sleep but don't play with me because when you try to play basketball while I am playing hockey, you just end up making an annoyance out of yourself rather than being someone to have an actual discussion with. If you are just playing around at being annoying, well carry on, then.

Congratulations! That's the funniest line I've ever read on a political message board. :D

While GW is not totally innocent, many of the problems we currently face are a direct result of actions taken by Bill Clinton.

Prime example is the ever increasing metals prices. His actions removed the safeguards that were preventing China from wrecking our metal industry. They have been buying mines, raw materials, refining chemicals then selling them back to us at large markups since this change took place.

When this started I could purchase a 20' stick of 3/8" copper at .27 cents a foot, when I stopped offering copper tubing with my misting systems in 2005 it had hit $1.25 a foot and has continued to go up since then. And stainless steel is going up fast as well, 10% at the end of March, 10% end of May and 50% before the end of summer, in addition to the increases seen in the past.

Point is, it is not one single presidents fault, none of them have had our best interests at heart in over 50 years, and I wouldn't count on Obama being any different, he is already screwing things up royally.

First of all, I am a liberal, a pragmatic liberal, which some might say is an oxymoron and don't be playing on the moron part. Granted, Bill Clinton and the Democrats were in the housing mess up to their elbows but so were the Republicans. If you do a little research you will see this. The Clinton administration did not make any financial institution make bad loans. It was in their best interest to make these bad loans. Companies like Countrywide and Quicken and others made the loans and got rid of them as quickly as they could. The loan officers didn't care whether the loans were sound or not; they got paid on commission. The loans ended as part of the subprime derivative market that Wall Street was pushing on the public. Companies like Goldman Sachs packaging these mortgages and selling them with the left hand to their unwary investors and with the right hand betting short against them. So the Clinton administration may have given the impetus to the subprime mortgage debacle but Wall Street finished it.

No oversite of Wall Street. Hands off say the Republicans. Let the free market rule. Bull. There is no free market, not when billion dollar banks rule.

Funny, now that the the subprime scandal is somewhat behind us, the Republicans don't want rules in place to prevent this kind of derivative market again.

As far as George Bush, how about he lied to take us to war with Iraq and finish what his daddy didn't, though he didn't finish it, (mission accomplished he said).

How about your buddy Dick Cheney and his counsel with all the large energy suppliers behind closed doors. Still nobody knows what went on there except two of the attendees were Haliburton, (who he had just accepted a $32,000,000 severance package from before he entered the White House), and BP. Rules governing the oversite of drilling relaxed to nonexistent.

Also, remember that George Bush's Treasury Secratary, Henry Paulson put together the first bailout package before the Bush Administration left office.

And have you looked at the Curves for unemployment and economic growth? Steep downhill up until Bush leaves office. Steep uphill since Obama enters office.

And how about the Fox network. Hannity broadcasting live from a T-party event, a small crowd is present and them Hannity comes back to the event, later on his show; all of sudden the crowd has burgeoned to 25,000 people; funny though, the sky goes from Sunny outside to Grey and overcast. Later they admitted that they had inadverdantly inserted the wrong footage.

I could go on.

A small pointer, though it does not really apply for USA. Seeing Norway vibes bit towards socialismn, and yet we are among the strongest countries when it comes economical power and high life standard. I see some of your problems, since I do feel Obama have one big weakness, he is bad at making the big decisions. But I felt like the health care policy he got through is one step closer to make America a slightly better place to live.

The other good pointer, Obama actually made Europe to be less offensive against America. With the last president (Bush), I do not speak for everyone, but a lot of people - They didn't like America and had a very strong anti-US feeling.

But this discussion is more about agreeing to disagree, but I'm saying. Vibing towards socialismn ain't that bad of thing, if we put out Norway as a example. But it's how far you take it out which will creates the problem. I.E: Ex-russia, North Korea and such goverments.

Just my rubbish 50 cent. :)

I have Norwegian friends who work on their country's oil rigs. From what they have told me and from what I have seen on visits, while Norwegians do not have the opportunities to make as great a living as some few Americans, most Norwegians live well, in decent housing, with good good, medical care, educational opportunities and a decent retirement. One of my buddies was seriously injured on a rig and could not work that job anymore. He went back to college at government expense, and his family received a stipend. Now he is back at work in a new profession, and paying taxes again.

Socialism, like any form of government, can be what you make of it.

Norway, by the way, is a terrific country to visit. The scenery is spectacular, the people are terrific.

Yeah, we have lower income in high end services, while on mid/lower end of the work table, we earn a lot more than the average people. But you said most of things that makes the country go around. The taxes goes into means of us to have care solutions that most other people can't have and a back up way to get it going.

Though I must say if I were to change bit on what you said I would say decent/slightly above avg medical care and rather high standard of housing. Rest hit the spot straight out. :)

But dont take me wrong either, I like americans on overall level. Though I may disagree on some of the political views and aspects there.

I love the people who claim economic growth is on the rise, whose chart are you looking at? The Obama administrations?

I run a business and can tell you we are definitely on an economic decline. I see it everywhere; my suppliers, competitors, customers, etc. We are being fed a load of crap to make us think things are getting better.

Another born again hypocrite. It amazes me how so called christians like you have no clue what christ like means. Who did Jesus hang out with? The beggars, the leppars, the whores the downtrodden, those who had nothing, yet today the born again, think that if god didn't mean for you to have it he wouldn't give it to you or he wouldn't provide you the means to take it.

All I see coming from you born again wing nuts is hate. You despise those people who would really want to help the lower downtrodden and no it is not okay to go to church on sunday and act like a holier than thou and then the rest of the week despise those in need.

Jesus told the rich man to give all he had to those in need and come and follow him but the rich man walked away sad because he had many possessions and you may not be rich, but you look down on those who do not believe as you and you would not give to them either instead you would condemn them. Judge not lest ye be judged Reverend.

Just gotta point out here, your judging, aren't you?

Also, god says he helps those who help themselves. I'm not helping anyone who wants to live off the system for free.
