    Well after much screwing around with cables I found a great cable to getting the tv out to work that won't break the bank.

    The Zune av cable works pretty much perfectly. I'm unsure if the audio is going to the correct channel or not but it does come out the tv speakers. There is something very cool about google earth on a 46inch tv.

    Also a quick amazon search shows these cables can be had very cheaply. The official zune av cable is very well made and is only a few dollars. I have a few laying around but here it is on amazon for $1.99

    Amazon.com: Zune A/V Output Cable: Electronics

    Its my understanding that the Zune cables are the same as the iPod cables but since I won't purchase anything apple I can't verify myself.

    If you already knew this then ignore the post, but for those that don't its a cheap way to get even more out of these awesome devices (calling it a phone just doesn't seem to cover it).

    So how do these hook up to the vibrant? Does the video really come through the 3.5 mil jack or am I missing something here?

    Yes, it does. Whatever is on your phone is displayed on the TV. This goes for your interface, internet, movies, games, you name it... It isn't HD, but it's still pretty cool and actually looks good.

    Yup, just plug it in the "headphone" jack then enable in settings and there you go. The entire device interface on your tv. I can't wait til froyo so I can hook a bluetooth keyboard to it. Still though it does a great job for movies, pictures, music, and gaming.

    Spent a while tonight trying that and it just straight up failed outright. Once that get accomplished it'll be time to get my dock built with ponoko and we'll have a serious android tv/ web tv/ multimedia hub goin on. I keep looking but the multimedia dock has apparently been ditched by samsung. Kinda aggravating but no worries, Where there's a will there's a way.

    Just an FYI, I have an old cable that looks just like the one in the link (I think I got it from Radio Shack years ago). Anyway, tested it out and it didn't work. Then I thought to myself, maybe the pin-outs are different. Sure enough, I had to use the Right channel (Red) as the Video (Yellow).

    For some reason Avatar won't play (I get a message that says, "TV-Out not supported while application is running"), but other videos as well as the actual home screen etc, show up just fine.

    Thanks!!!

    The big issue with these kinds of cables is they all look alike but there are a bunch of different pin outs. Being something of a portable video geek I have several different ones sand it was a pain to figure out which cable would work and which colors you'd have to use where.

    I tried camcorder cables, dvr cables, generic cables, before I finally discovered the zune cable worked perfectly. Glad I could help guys.

    Nope the Avatar movie is locked to the phone. Same with the Sims game but all my other video files worked and so did the games, but playing solitaire on a 46 inch seemed silly.

    It wont let you because the movie is protected with DRM. This will only get worse as older tv's are replaced with smarter ones!

    I have one of those cables that has the video out on the red, White & Yellow are audio (but which is really left or right is not all that important ....

    Maybe you could supply a pin-out of the good Zune cable ....

    Male 3.5 mm stereo RCA connectors
    ================ ==============
    Ring Tip ====> to : ?
    Next Ring up ===> to : ?
    Next Ring up ===> to : ?
    Next Ring up ===> to : ?

    Would be helpful to those that have cables that they want to repair ... rather buy yet another ...

    Thanks ...

    EDIT BTW : I Found this in another forum ... may help others ... Maybe dissident75 can verify the pin-outs shown ...

    bit-tech.net Forums - View Single Post - Zune DIY: tv output cable. *Project Completion*

    Also I found this image someone has made to detail the differences in the AV hookups:
    [IMG]

    This shows that you could use either the iPod or the standard cable to hook it up, but the colors would not match. That is what I was shooting for in this mod is the matching colors. And trust me as soon as I can run to the store to get a few more materials I will finish this up pro style.

    This is just one of those It was really late and I said hey it would be neat to do mods. I do not fancy waiting a week for some silly overpriced cable to come off the internet.

    EDIT 8/11/10 : I have verified the outputs from the audio phone(jack-out) :
    using the picture above (when the phone is in the TV-Out Mode)...
    Stereo Audio Connector :
    Contact Number :
    1 = Video + out
    2 = Ground
    3 = Audio + (left or right --- not sure)
    4 = Audio + (left or right --- not sure)

    From this you should be able to fix any cable to wire it, so the colors match your Tvs' colors ... but be sure to label the cable as a special cable for the Samsung Vibrant TV-Mode Cable ...

  16. Look at that JJJ back in the game with FAQS! good to see your still around man!

    There is now a cable for the Micro USB that runs to HDMI!!! So there are choices now. I have not seen anyone testing it, but just google Galaxy S HDMI and you'll find them all over.
