Prime time over..

JAy3001

Well the time has come.. finally I have given up on my Prime. Mine is going back next week for a refund.

The final straw was not being able to update to JB and the constant screen tearing that occurs if I unlock the screen straight after it turns off. Oh and maybe the random shutdowns? Or maybe seeing so many U.S users being able to trade theirs in? lol :D

Now the only question remains is to decide what to replace it with?! :smokingsomb:

You are not alone. I am pretty disappointed in the overall build and software quality of this device.
I have been a longtime user of Asus motherboards, but I do not see even that continuing.

I think I would be looking at Nexus 10 if I were shopping today.

For now, I am tolerating the Prime. It has improved some since I unlocked bootloader and installed custom roms. It is still a poorly executed package.

Don't we all know. I've had mine since January and I do love it, but there are just too many issues with it to keep it especially for the price!

It has drove me crazy seeing all these U.S. people being able to trade theirs in for the last few months. But you cannot deny that Asus do make some amazing tech, most of the new tablets I have seen in the last few months are Asus including the new Ultra-Book flip PC.

So I would not be put off getting another Asus product, just a shame the Prime was/is flawed so badly.

Yes, but are you sure the newer devices are not suffering problems as well?
I should probably have contacted Asus about a refund.......not keen on having another Asus device.

This is true. But thats where I need to do my research..

Chances are I may just go grab another Samsung Smart TV for the front room.. lol

I love new toys.
Just got a Synology ds112 NAS. Added a WD Red 1tb drive.
Having a lot of fun getting it all set up.
Its like a personal cloud, a camera server, mail server, and a lot more.....in one little package.

If you're just planning on selling your prime, give the Energy ROM a shot before you give up on it, especially if you're already unlocked and all that. This is easily the best ROM that I've used on the Prime, and I've used most of them. The new Clemsyn kernel is wonderful, and the ROM overall is even more stable than the stock JB update.

You can find it on XDA. I seem to remember that linking to other forums (particularly XDA) is frowned upon here on the site.

I read that thread. Looks like it usus power fast and has some ui tweaks the creator preferred. I like to stick to more generic roms. Am running Craig Gomez's rom now. Works pretty well.

I certainly wont be unlocking it to smack a ROM into it. A refund is all I want now, there are too many hardware issues for me. Add to the fact that the unit will not detect a manual update I doubt it would even manage it. lol

You know what they say? "You can't polish a turd".. ;)

New tech is great, so long as it has been proven. I will grab a NAS drive once I decide whether to get a new TV or not. :)

Wish you luck on the refund. Personally, I just picked up the new Chromebook and LOVE it! I think I'm just not a fan of such large tablets. My N7 gets far more use than my Prime.

I haven't noticed any significant decrease in battery life since I switched to Energy a week and a half ago. It may be a hair less than stock, but I've also been running it at 1.8 gig all the time. The cosmetics are pretty minimal for the most part. It's very close to stock, just faster, more stable and a bit prettier for the most part. I was using Craig's stock Jelly Bean, and this is a serious step up. Like I said, if you're going to get rid of the Prime anyway, make a backup and give Energy a shot before you do. I bet it will change your mind.

EDIT: I thought you were the OP. Sorry about that. Either way, I'd definitely recommend Energy.

Okay with me, ip the OP doesnt mind.
I am getting very good batt life and excellent stability from the Gomez JB rom.
Quite pleased.
I may give Energy a whirl....if you think it that good. I am surprized how stable the Gomez rom is.......all ota's have been horribly unstable. Glad I unlocked. Am pleased with Twrp recovery.......installed the jb one afterintalling my Gomez rom.

Are you running his version of CM10, or his stock JB? I haven't tried CM10, but I was on stock JB. Energy is significantly more stable than stock, in my experience. I would get random reboots every other day or so with stock, but I've been on Energy since the 10th and I haven't had a single reboot or SOD.

Running his stock JB here. I have had no such problems. Stable as can be.....so stable its almost boring. lol
Did you do a full wipe before install, and verify md5?

Funny how this thread went from the "moving on..." to rooting and flashing makes things better..... I haven't had any issues with our Prime so I guess we've been fortunate that I didn't need to root it. As with most devices rooting can be a savior and by the way, NRG is an awesome developer, I'm sure his rom runs awesome on the Prime

Drlled a few holes in my Primes back cover and soldered in a few wires for gps and wifi.
When you exted the wires away from the case.....the reception is AMAZING.

Rooting will never fix that.

At the price point for this product, why would a person need to do that? The product should work, as designed, advertised and marketed out of the box!

You gotme to try Energy.
Nice rom!
Fast, smooth. I actually like the ui tweaks........especially the reboot and recovery options in shutdown menu.
Thanks!

Glad you like it, too. I've been using it since it first came out, and I have yet to experience a random reboot or SOD. It's been far and away the most functional, stable ROM I have used on any device I've used. I love it.

Yes....very pleased with it.
We should probably start a new thread in ATR....rather than filling up Jay's thread.

Will do so now.

You won't get an argument from me.
Asus did a poor job on this device; hardware and software.

Aw, screw that, I still don't an issue with my purchase a year later. We're still very satisfied customers and happy I purchased the TF201:beer:
