Private Party Trade of Edge Device

So, I got my GN3 on the Edge program. I have a friend who would like to trade me for a GS5. I am very interested in this as I would prefer the size of the GS5 a little better. I was wondering if anyone has done this and then later tried to trade in on the Edge program. Obviously at this point a straight across trade is better than paying a bunch of money to trade mine in for a GS5 at VZ.

You may not be able to trade or sell until you own the phone (which is after making all of the payments, either over the 24 months or ahead of time). I am not sure VZW would activate an Edge phone that isn't paid off on someone else's account.
