Question for Metro Customers in the Mid-west

So I'm planning a trip from Dallas, TX up I-35 to where it intersects I-80 near Des Moines, IA and then heading east on I-80 to Davenport, IA. I know from the coverage maps that I can expect to be able to use my phones (my wife and I both have LG Optimus M's), but just how much of the phone will we be able to use? Will we be able to use data, texting and so on? I know there are Metro people in the mid-west, please let me know what we can expect.
