Root Rooting The LG Optimus Q From Straight Talk!!!

posting this for all thoughs out there with an LG Optimus Q LGL55c from straight talk!

THIS ROOT WORKS!!!


first download these Drivers and install them.
Second Download LG_Esteem_Root.zip.
plug your phone into the USB on your pc, make sure your in "charge only" mode. open the LG Esteem folder and click the run.bat file, will prompt hit any key to continue... let it do its thing, when its done your phone will reboot and you have root!!!

SUGGESTED: do a factory reset after preforming any root or flash!!!
power off the phone then hold down volume down "home key" and power till you see the android system recovery. scroll(using volume keys) to wipe data/factory reset click "menu key" to select then scroll to yes and select it...

WARNING: THIS WILL WIPE ALL YOUR DATA SO MAKE BACKUPS OF ANYTHING IMPORTANT TO YOU OR KISS IT GOODBYE! ^_^

This works but you have to extract the file to C:. Extracting to C:\LG_Esteem_Root worked for me.

when i extracted it it was in a sub sub folder think it was something like
D:\downloads\LG_Esteem_Root or something like that...

use astro file manager it gives the option to back up and restore apps... as far as contacts simply sync them to your gmail music pics things like that you should just copy to your desktop or lappy via the usb cable and msgs... well idk about msgs...

1) rooting is simply "hacking" your phone to gain FULL access to the system or "root" files its mostly good for dev's but also allows for less experianced users to do things like wifi tethering or even adding a new ROM And Themeing beyond simple launcher apps...

2) simply put dont really think you can... =\ unless you have a phone that allows support of two sd cards or a tablet... =\

Long time lurker, first time poster. Registered only so I could say "thank you" for this very easy root solution. I have enjoyed my Optimus Q / Enlighten since I bought it but now I can utilize apps like Autokiller to help extend my battery life and provide better memory management. Incredibly fast root and very easy to do. If you were on the fence before, I suggest you root and enjoy now. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

everytime i try to start the process it stops at *daeman started successfully* and then it sits there til i either start another "run" or close it. then when it does finally start, it'll say everything from superuser and zergrush were unable to copy. need advise badly. it'd be apreciated

Sounds to me like the USB Debugging is not turned on. With the phone unplugged, go into Settings - Applications - Development and make sure there is a check in the box by "USB debugging". After that, make sure to connect the phone in charge mode and the daemon should do it's work and be done in about 2 minutes.

I have never rooted a phone before. I will be rooting the optimus from straight talk. Do i root the phone after i activate it or before? Does it matter. I just want to make sure because i do not want a paper weight when i am done.

The phone can be rooted anytime after activation. I had mine on for about 2 weeks before I rooted it.

Does this root method provide a custom recovery?

Just curious because it would be much safer if you could do a nandroid before flashing in case something got borked.

Once you have root access I would recommend Titanium backup. It has a free and a Pro version, free works just fine, but this is probably the best app you'll ever use as a root user, buy the Pro version and give the dev the greatest thanks ther is. A donation
Titanium won't do a complete backup, but it will backup your individual apps and games, etc. As long as you only backup and restore non-system apps (system apps are shown in red) you can restore both the app and data.

i have no problem downloading them to a pc. It pops up an open/save box so i think you need to download them on a pc.

Took less than 2 minutes. Now if only we could get CyanogenMod for the Q... oh well hopefully it will be available soon.
