Root rooting today

Ok guys, I am all set to root mytouch 3g.

I am going to follow the one click root guide given by unlockr.com.

I have downloaded :

sampping.nbh
flashrec.apk (Updated: 09/26/09)
amonra's recovery image (Updated 11/18/2009)

I am still debating on which rom to flash. I like the superD and Cyanogen, but not sure which one to go for and where I can find the latest one. I would like to have speed and everything working on my phone. Not very interested on looks, so not even looking at 2.1 based roms.

What do you guys suggest and where can I find them.
