Root Rooting with ace hack kit + flashing MIUI rom

Hi,

I wanna give rooting a go for the first time. I own a unbranded DHD which is fully up-to-date.

I wan't to try out attn1's "ace hack kit" as posted on [TOOL] Advanced Ace Hack Kit (UPDATED 26-09-2011) - xda-developers it seems like a no-brainer. How ever, I'm still a little unsure what will happen after I got root. And of course I'm very worried, that if something happens I'm not capable of figuring out what to do then.

As I understand it, if the hack is a success I then have a fully operational phone without somekind of rom(???), but I'm unsure on how to proceed when I wan't to flash a custom rom (I wan't the english translation of MIUI rom found at miuiandroid.com). Should I just place the miui rom zip in the root of the SD card, and try to flash it from there?

It looks like it leaves you with a rooted, unsecured phone, but still with the same firmware on as you have now. In this case, the names ROM and firmware are essentially interchangeable, so you always have some kind of ROM on there.

So your next step would be to download ROM Manager from the market and put the Miui.zip on the sdcard (don't extract it, just leave it as is).

Then you'll want to backup things like your current apps (with Titanium Backup), messages (SMS Backup & Restore) and anything else important, then use ROM Manager to backup your current firmware. Then you can flash the miui.zip (you'll see the option to do a factory reset, make sure that's ticked).

Once you've installed MIUI, you'll have to redownload the apps you used from the market and restore your backed up data.

If that goes wrong, you'll have your backup done with ROM Manager to fall back on.

So running Ace Hack Kit (if successful) doesn't do any bad to my current firmware? It's good to hear that Rom manager can back up that firmware, because if I wan't to go back to stock, or later if I wan't to sell the phone, it would be nice if the DHD was running stock android with Sense as HTC intended.

Thanks a lot man, now I just wan't my freakin' phone back from repair so I can start rooting :D

It doesn't do anything to the ROM you already have (stock sense rom) so once the tool has run then you have the same stuff on there as before, nothing has changed apart from it being rooted, and it will have superuser and ROM manager on it.

Hi guys, just wanted to let you now, I now got my phone back from repair.

It took me 1 hour to root the device, and install the latest MIUI Rom afterwards. No errors during install at all!

Ran the hack kit through a Ubuntu Live CD, everything worked like a charm. Flashed the latest MIUI rom with Rom manager, worked great. The thing that took the longest was the backup of existing rom.

Welcome to AF Emil! :)

Have you read the manual? :p

I've not used that tool myself, but you need to disable HTC Sync/Anti virus etc, have you done all that?
