I recently got my first smartphone 
, Samsung Galaxy S, called showcase SCH-I500. It has firmware version 2.3.5 and carrier is nTelos.
As this is my first android device I'm not familiar much with anything regarding android OS.
I read about rooting and how that gives you more abilities on the phone but I was not able to find info on how to root this particular phone with nTelos carrier.
Does anybody have done this before or has more info on it?
Is there a benefit of doing just the rooting part but not having to change rom?
