Screen looks washed out compared to others

Hello everyone,
I'm new here so I can't post any pictures, but I got a replacement Galaxy Nexus the other day, and the screen looks more "washed out" than the last one. I haven't sent the old one back yet so I can compare side by side. It is not really noticeable when the brightness is all the way up, but when the phone is on auto brightness it looks quite a bit purplish in the greys. For example the wallpaper greys look lighter, and the messaging keyboard look sort of like a different color. I was wondering if there was something that could be done through software adjustments to fix the issue. I really can't send it back to get ANOTHER replacement, but I dont want a washed out screen, especially when this phone's screen is suppose to be a key feature .

Welcome to AF. Why are you sending the old one back? If you're not satisfied with the replacement you should notify VZW and ask them what they can do to resolve your issues. Otherwise you might need to change phone models to something that will satisfy you. Gl! ;)
 
I like the phone, I want to keep this model...I know its fairly common to have variations between models and quirks in all of them, but I am trying to get mine working like the ones that ppl describe on here haha. Thanks for the tip though. I got my phone off amazon though, VZW can't do much for me I dont think
 
So this isn't your first replacement? :confused:

Remember people with complaints post. People who are happy go along with their business. For every complaint here, my bet, is there are 5 others who are pleased with their GN :)

I thought the Big River had an excellent return policy :confused:
 
no I have only had 1 replacement I worded that poorly, but it would be ridiculous to try and get another replacement. the new screen really does look rather different, but idk if it its a setting, or some type of software issue I can change, or if its the hardware. I'm coming from an old samsung flip phone and want my GN to work as intended.
 
I see. Well it sounds like your not happy with it and you shouldn't settle for something you're not happy with.

Since you have 3 GN's (your 2 and your brothers) take a picture and let us see what you're seeing :D

Sure you can. Take the picture of what you see, go to imageshack or photobucket and get a free account, upload the pic, post the link to it here ;)
 
I don't see a difference in the screenshots, which would make sense if the screen is actually the problem since it would be a display issue that wouldn't show up in a screenshot. Your best bet would be to take pictures in similar lighting conditions or side by side of two phones showing the same image using the same settings. That would give us an idea if your screen is at fault.
 
another weird thing is the blacks look exactly the same, its just the greys on the keyboard, setting backgrounds etc that are off
 
Yeah sorry I should have been more clear. I meant for you to take the pic with a camera. Like one of the GN cameras since you have 3 phones. Then post that. :p

Blacks should be the same even if it was a display issue; displaying blacks on an OLED screen is the same as that part of the screen being turned off.
 
This sounds like they aren't both running at the same display levels. Have you checked to see what your display is set to? Set them both to either auto or full and then do a comparison maybe?
 
They are running at the same display lvl. When the brightness is on full the difference is less apparent but on auto it is more so
 
It's more noticeable in person, but not by much...I have other pictures if you need them, but those kinda show you what I'm talking about with the grays....one of them is a purplish washed out grey, both phones show banding but that doesn't bother me much


I'm just really hoping I can do something with the software to "reset" it or fix it, or compensate for it in some way, when comparing side by side, one looks much better than the other.
