T-Mobile G2 (HTC Hero) and Missing Applications - SUCCESS!

I've been complaining left, right and centre about not having access to protected apps in the Market. I had checked the ROM version on my device against that offered as the latest on the T-Mobile web site and as a last resort, I downloaded it, installed HTC Sync and "updated" my ROM.

Well - now I have the VERY SAME ROM NUMBER, but have just gone to the Market and bought the first of my wanted apps: Record It.

Seems that solved the problem.

By ROM number do you mean Build Number?

Menu -> Settings -> About Phone -> Build Number, yes.

Mine says "2.73.110.26 CL#69351 release-keys". It's the same number as the shipped ROM, but this one seems to allow access to protected apps.
